Rumor tracker Out in China
Xiaomi Pengcheng N90: the SUV leaks called YU9 seats seven and goes 1,705 km. Everything we know
Xiaomi's big extended-range SUV went on sale in China on Sept. 7 and took over 70,000 orders in its first month. Here is what Xiaomi has confirmed, which leaks held up, what it costs and whether it will ever leave China.

For more than a year, Xiaomi’s third car had a name Xiaomi never chose. Spy photos, test videos and Chinese social media called the big, boxy SUV the YU9, a neat follow-up to the SU7 sedan and the YU7 SUV. Xiaomi went another way. The car launched in China on Sept. 7, 2026, as the Pengcheng N90, or the SkyNomad N90 in English, the first of a new line of large extended-range SUVs.
The short version: the seven-seat N90 Max costs CNY 269,900 in China, and owners have been driving it since Sept. 12. It goes 464 km on battery and 1,705 km with its gas-powered range extender on China’s CLTC test. Xiaomi has not announced it for any other market, plans to enter Europe in 2027 without naming models, and does not sell cars in the US.
A codename on a supplier’s roadmap
The first hint surfaced in September 2024, when a supplier’s technology roadmap showed a Xiaomi extended-range SUV for 2026, codenamed N3. In March 2025 spy photos caught a big, boxy Xiaomi SUV with a lidar sensor on its roof, said to be codenamed Kunlun. That July a Chinese car blogger described a range extender built around a 1.5-liter turbo engine, possibly from engine maker Dongan, with two motors and all-wheel drive, and the posts that car news sites repeated called the car the YU9.
In October 2025 Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, posted photos from high-altitude testing in Xinjiang, and big camouflaged SUVs were filmed nearby. Reports from the test site promised over 400 km on battery and over 1,500 km in all, and road-test videos pointed to a car over 5.2 meters long with six or seven seats, aimed squarely at Li Auto’s L9 and the Aito M9.
Not YU9, and not Xuntian either
The name game ran almost to the end. In April Chinese car bloggers claimed the SUV would get a new sub-brand, SKYNOMAD, with the Chinese name Xuntian and no Xiaomi badge on the car. Trademark filings backed part of the story: Xiaomi had filed dozens of Xuntian marks, the earliest in April 2023, along with SKYNOMAD marks. In May road-test photos showed a Xiaomi logo on the nose and a rear badge reading “Xiaomi Xuntian N90”.

Xiaomi settled it in July. On July 7 its official car account posted the name SkyNomad. A day later Xiaomi announced the series, called Pengcheng in Chinese, as “intelligent, reconfigurable, large-space” SUVs on a new architecture called Kunlun, apart from the SU7 and YU7. On July 9 it named the first model the Pengcheng N90 and showed it with SkyNomad lettering across the nose. The leakers got N90, SkyNomad and the Xiaomi badge right. YU9 and Xuntian never happened.
A price cut on launch night
At its Pengcheng tech event on July 30, Xiaomi showed the Kunlun platform, range-extender system and safety system, and opened pre-orders with a CNY 1,000 deposit: CNY 299,900 for the N90 Max and CNY 259,900 for the five-seat N70 Max. A July report had put the seven-seater above CNY 300,000, so the pre-sale price landed close.
Launch night brought a surprise. On Sept. 7 Xiaomi priced four models: the N70 Pro at CNY 209,900, the N70 Max at CNY 239,900, the N90 Max at CNY 269,900 and the five-seat N90 Max Studio, sold in China as the Explorer Edition, at CNY 299,900. The N90 Max came in CNY 30,000 below its pre-sale price, and Xiaomi said the series took over 10,000 locked orders in four minutes. Lei Jun sweetened early orders with free swivel front seats, Nappa leather, zero-gravity seats in the second row, wheel and paint vouchers and Xiaomi HAD driver assistance free for life. One rumor did not pan out: a blogger’s promise of an entry model under CNY 200,000.
Seven seats and two lidars
The N90 Max is a big car: 5,285 mm long on a 3,080 mm wheelbase, with seven seats in a 2+2+3 layout. Two motors drive all four wheels with 310 kW, about 416 hp, enough for 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, a little slower than the five seconds rumored last year, and a top speed of 190 km/h. Air springs and 12 airbags are standard.

The cabin is built for long family trips. The front seats can swivel to face the second row, there is a 9-liter fridge and a rear entertainment screen, and Xiaomi says the car can wade through 750 mm of water. Every Pengcheng carries a 700 TOPS driver-assist computer, a front lidar and 4D radar, and the N90 adds a rear lidar. That is driver assistance, not self-driving, though Xiaomi HAD will change lanes on a voice command.
How the range extender works
The wheels are always driven by electricity. A 76 kWh battery gives 464 km, or 288 miles, on the CLTC test, and a 1.5-liter, 112 kW Dongan engine, listed in the car’s filing with China’s industry ministry, charges it from a 60-liter tank for a combined 1,705 km, or 1,059 miles. With the battery run down, Xiaomi quotes 6.26 liters per 100 km.
Most of the leaks on this point held up: over 70 kWh, 400 to 500 km on battery, over 1,500 km in total. Charging is the exception. Rumors promised an 800-volt system adding 300 km in 15 minutes. Xiaomi quotes up to 285 km in 15 minutes and names no voltage, and later reports point to a 400-volt system.
The Studio: a roof that rises
The N90 Max Studio turns the big SUV into a small camper. It has five seats and an electric lifting roof that opens up to 2,294 mm of inside height, and the second row folds into a bed. It rates 462 km on battery and 1,688 km combined. Xiaomi says the roof may go up only when the car is parked off public roads.

The Studio also answers part of an older rumor. A Chinese car blogger had described a separate camper-style SUV, codenamed “Mandao”, with a 95 kWh battery, four motors, 600 km of electric range, standing room and a roof bed. The Studio has the roof and the bed, but the 76 kWh battery and two motors of the N90 Max, so that bigger camper may still be coming, or may never exist.
Over 70,000 orders in a month
Deliveries began on Sept. 12 in 75 Chinese cities. Lei Jun handed over the first cars in Xuzhou, then 30 more in Shanghai the next day. On Sept. 30 Xiaomi said it had delivered over 40,000 cars in September across all its models, and Lei Jun said over 10,000 of them were Pengcheng SUVs, in their first month on sale. On Oct. 8 Xiaomi said the series had taken over 70,000 locked orders in its first 30 days.
The deals have not stopped. For October, a Xiaomi executive posted free or discounted options worth up to CNY 78,000 on N90 Max models and up to CNY 60,000 on the N70, plus five-year low-interest loans from CNY 49,900 down.
Will it leave China?
Xiaomi has not said. On Sept. 3 Xiaomi Auto announced that it will enter Europe in 2027, starting with Germany, and signed agreements with eight German dealer groups, without naming the models. The Pengcheng series is, in Xiaomi’s words, only available in the Chinese mainland for now.

America is a different story. Xiaomi does not sell cars in the US. The closest the N90 Max has come is Macao, where Xiaomi showed it to Dallas Mavericks players on Oct. 8, during the team’s trip to China.
What to watch next
Xiaomi has set no date for what comes next. Watch for the first Pengcheng price changes in China, any new model, and the list of cars Xiaomi takes to Germany in 2027. We update this story as soon as Xiaomi says more.
