Persona 6: a new cast, modern-day Japan, Game Pass on day one and still no date. Everything we know

Atlus revealed Persona 6 on June 7 with a 79-second teaser and added Switch 2 in September. Here is what Atlus and SEGA have confirmed, what leaks say about the hero, Yokohama and a September 2027 launch, and where a date could come from.

For now, Persona 6 lasts 79 seconds. On June 7, 2026, at the Xbox Games Showcase, Atlus answered years of leaks with a teaser of horror-style images: a rainy graveyard lit in toxic green, hands pointing at a board covered in symbols, a figure in dark water, then the logo. No characters, no gameplay, no date. It is the first new numbered Persona since Persona 5 in 2016.

The short version: no release date, no price and no pre-order. SEGA lists the date as TBD, and P-Studio director Kazuhisa Wada says the game comes after Persona 4 Revival, a remake due Feb. 18, 2027. Persona 6 is confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2, with Game Pass on day one. The most specific rumor, a September 2027 launch, is still holding but unconfirmed.

SEGA called Persona 6 “the next installment” in the series, with a completely fresh, standalone story and a new cast. SEGA SAMMY told investors on June 15 that Persona 6 ranked No. 1 in global Google search trends after the showcase, and that the Persona 6 and Persona 4 Revival trailers drew about 140 million views in two days.

Persona 4 Revival goes first

The one firm word on timing came from Wada on reveal day: the team is working on Persona 6 “for its release after Persona 4 Revival.” That remake of Persona 4 Golden arrives on Feb. 18, 2027.

SEGA SAMMY said in June that release timing would be announced later. Its Aug. 7 earnings presentation listed Persona 6 as “Release Date TBD,” outside the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027. Today Steam says “To be announced,” and the PlayStation Store says “Release date to be determined.”

One paper trail has surfaced. Reported on June 18, a listing on Australia’s Classification Board website rates Persona 6 M for violence, nudity and coarse language. It names SEGA of America and came through the online tool used to rate digital store pages, but gives no date. The report still holds; Atlus has not commented.

The September 2027 rumor

Leakers have chased the date for years. In June 2023 an anonymous leaker on social media, who had called Atlus’s 2023 reveals, said Persona 6 would be out by the end of 2026. With the game lined up behind a 2027 remake, that claim is debunked.

On May 26, 2026, a games industry insider on social media, citing a leak on a Chinese social network, claimed the game was feature complete but that Atlus management had pushed it to 2027. Two days later a SEGA and Atlus leaker with a strong track record wrote on a games forum that Atlus plans a September 2027 release. Both claims are still holding. When the teaser skipped the year, that leaker said not to read much into it, since Persona 4 Revival launches first.

Another insider with a strong track record half missed, saying on a June 4 video podcast that the showcase reveal would carry a 2027 year but no month. The reveal happened, but the teaser gave no year at all.

Two platform calls came true

The platform rumors aged best. Persona 5 was PlayStation only at launch, but in August 2023 an Xbox-focused leaker on a podcast said Persona 6 would launch on Xbox on day one. In March 2024 the same anonymous leaker behind the 2026 claim added Nintendo’s next console. Both claims are now confirmed.

At the reveal, SEGA confirmed Xbox Series X|S and PC, day one on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, plus PS5 and Steam. Switch 2 joined at the Nintendo Direct on Sept. 9, 2026, with no date and no new trailer, and SEGA now plans physical PS5 and Switch 2 editions in Japan, up from PS5 only in June.

Why the wait for Nintendo? On July 8 two leakers on a games podcast claimed a Microsoft deal for day-one Game Pass launches had kept Atlus from announcing Persona games for Switch 2, and that Atlus told Xbox’s new leadership it would not renew it. That claim is still holding. Persona 4 Revival reaches Switch 2 on May 20, 2027, three months after the other versions, and Atlus has not said when Persona 6 does.

A double life in modern-day Japan

The Steam description says you “live a double life in modern-day Japan”: school life, friendships and romance, plus strange rumors, urban legends and occult incidents hidden in familiar streets. You awaken a Persona, a manifestation of your inner self, and grow stronger through the bonds you form. Persona 5 was set in Tokyo, and Persona 4 Revival in Inaba, a small rural town.

The leaks that came true, and a fake

On May 27 a games industry insider said green would be the main color, and on June 3 a leaked logo, simpler than past ones, spread on a games forum. The teaser used the same P6 logo over green-tinted images, so that claim is confirmed. Forum and social media users then reported SEGA copyright takedowns of posts sharing the leaked art and logos, which fans read as proof the leaks were real. That report still holds; SEGA has not commented.

One was fake. On June 4 an account posing as an Atlus director claimed early development footage had been stolen. The next day Atlus warned that impersonator accounts have no link to the company and that official news comes only from its own website and social accounts, so the claim is debunked.

One hero or two, depending on the leak

The May 26 insider also claimed two full protagonists: a girl with black and red hair and a blonde boy. Two days later concept art on a Chinese social network showed the hero as a boy with a short blonde bowl cut. The SEGA and Atlus leaker vouched for it and said the girl in the art, reportedly named Yoko Kusakabe, is a key character but not a second playable protagonist. Both claims are still holding, though they clash. Atlus has not shown or named a single character.

What a leaked achievement list says

The richest leak came on Sept. 8: a Steam achievement list with 48 achievements, leaked to an achievement-tracking site. It sets the game in Yokohama, where the cast joins a group called Hex that investigates supernatural crimes and arrests the culprit behind each “Underworld.” Fans had already matched leaked location art to Yokohama in May.

The list also points to social links renamed Connections, more than 80 of them, plus part-time jobs, school exams, romance, weapon upgrades, a “good ending” and the Reaper as an optional boss. These reports still hold. The Steam page does list achievements, but names can change before launch, and Atlus has named no city, group or dungeon.

No price, no pre-order

You cannot buy Persona 6 yet: Steam, the PlayStation Store and the Xbox store offer only wishlists. For comparison, Persona 4 Revival starts at $69.99 on Steam, and Persona 5 launched in North America at $59.99 on PS4. Steam shows full audio in English and Japanese, text in 15 languages and Denuvo anti-tamper, and the Xbox store lists Xbox Play Anywhere, 4K and 60 fps.

What to watch next

Atlus has not promised news at any event. The biggest showcase left this year is The Game Awards on Dec. 10. With Switch 2 on board, every Nintendo Direct is a possible stage, and so is the Xbox Games Showcase, where Persona 6 debuted. A full trailer could also wait until Persona 4 Revival is out. We update this story as soon as Atlus names a date, opens pre-orders or shows a character.
