Samsung Galaxy S28: Exynos 2800 reports, One UI rebuild rumors and no word from Samsung. Everything we know
Samsung hasn't announced the Galaxy S28, or the Galaxy S27 that comes first. Here is what Samsung has said about its chips, prices and updates, what Korean reports say about the Exynos 2800, and what leakers claim about the screen and software.

The Galaxy S28 lives, for now, in chip roadmaps, supplier quotes and a few social media posts. Samsung hasn’t announced it, or the Galaxy S27 that comes first. As of Oct. 17, 2026, its newsroom has no news on either phone, and its chip site lists no Exynos 2700 or 2800.
The short version: no date, no price, no official spec. Samsung’s launch record points to early 2028. Korean reports say the S28 family gets an Exynos 2800 on Samsung’s third-generation 2nm process with Samsung’s own graphics, two display rumors aim at the S28 Ultra, and in the past week three rumors have pointed to a big One UI overhaul.
Two generations away
Samsung runs its Galaxy S calendar like a timetable. It unveiled the Galaxy S24 in San Jose on Jan. 17, 2024, the S25 there on Jan. 22, 2025, and the S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra in San Francisco on Feb. 25, 2026, with invitations about two weeks ahead each time. Keep that rhythm and the S27 lands in early 2027, the S28 a year later. Samsung hasn’t confirmed either date, and nearly every credible S28 report is about its chip.
The Exynos 2800 takes shape
On Dec. 25, 2025, a Korean business newspaper citing industry sources reported Samsung had developed its own mobile GPU design and planned to launch it in the Exynos 2800 in 2027, ending its reliance on AMD graphics. On March 26, 2026, a Korean IT news site citing industry sources put the chip’s debut in the Galaxy S28 family in 2028, gave it a codename, Vanguard, and named the process: SF2P+, Samsung’s third-generation 2nm, instead of 1.4nm. Samsung wants the design finished by the end of 2026, per that report. Both reports are still holding.

A looser rumor, posted in December 2025 by a tech site citing unnamed sources and a Chinese chip leaker on social media, says the 2800 drops Arm’s CPU core designs for Samsung’s own custom cores. Nothing has contradicted it. Today’s Exynos 2600, revealed on Dec. 19, 2025, as Samsung’s first 2nm phone chip, uses Arm’s C1-Ultra and C1-Pro cores.
Samsung itself stays vague. In April it said the Exynos 2700 “is under development as planned,” naming no phones. In July it said its chip unit had secured orders for a next-generation flagship chip, with new phone chips ramping on its second-generation 2nm process in the second half. None of it mentions the 2800.
Why 1.4nm looks too late for the S28
In June 2025, a Korean IT news site citing industry sources reported that Samsung had pushed its 1.4nm process back from its original 2027 target, and in March 2026 the same site put the delay at about two years. Samsung later confirmed the timing. On July 1, 2026, a Samsung Foundry executive said 1.4nm is “being developed smoothly with mass production targeted for 2029.” That is too late for a phone Samsung’s pattern puts in early 2028, so the 2nm report fits the company’s own schedule.
A richer screen for the Ultra, maybe
On March 4, 2026, an industry observer on social media said the S28 Ultra will finally move to a 10-bit panel. The same upgrade was claimed for the S26 Ultra, and reports say every S26 model kept an 8-bit panel. In May, an anonymous leaker account with a limited track record described a 3D curved OLED panel, curved on three sides and flat on one, exclusive to the S28 Ultra. No other report backs it. Both rumors are still holding.

The sturdier report, also still holding, is about parts, not looks. On Aug. 5, a Korean IT news site citing industry sources said Samsung Display had asked Novatek and other chipmakers for price quotes on display driver chips for the 2028 Galaxy S28 Ultra, a move away from relying only on Samsung’s own chip unit. The bar to clear is the S26 Ultra’s 6.9-inch QHD+ 120Hz screen, with the mobile industry’s first built-in Privacy Display.
Cameras on a slow clock
No credible S28 camera leak exists yet. On June 6, 2025, a well-known leaker with a strong Samsung record said Samsung won’t make major camera hardware upgrades on its Galaxy S phones for two years, and that even the S27 Ultra gets no major upgrade. The post was later deleted, though nothing has contradicted it. The S26 Ultra kept the S25 Ultra’s 200MP wide, 50MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x and 50MP 5x lineup, with wider apertures, and later leaks give the S27 Ultra a new 200MP main sensor of the same size.
Talk of a One UI rebuild
The loudest S28 talk this month is about software. On Oct. 11, an anonymous leaker account with a limited track record said Samsung has decided to rebuild One UI around system-level AI with Google, debuting with the Galaxy S28 as One UI 10 or 10.5. The account’s sources call the project Galaxy OS, but the leaker says it will still be One UI. In August the same account had said Samsung was only weighing a rebuild. On Oct. 16, a Samsung fan news site citing unnamed sources agreed on the name, adding that the redesigned system architecture built with Google sets up a later switch to Galaxy OS.

Then, on Oct. 17, a well-known leaker with a strong Samsung record said One UI 10 brings significant changes, “unprecedented in nature.” Asked whether it debuts on the Galaxy Z Fold9 or the Galaxy S28, the leaker answered: “Fold9.” Samsung usually shows new foldables in July, so if that leaker is right, One UI 10 appears on a foldable first. All three are rumors, still holding.
Batteries and memory
On Feb. 25, Samsung’s phone hardware R&D chief, Moon Sung-hoon, said silicon-carbon cells had not yet passed Samsung’s tests, adding: “for the silicon battery, we are getting it ready.” On July 23, Moon Sung-hoon said Samsung had used a silicon-carbon anode in a phone for the first time, in its new Galaxy Z8 foldables, and would decide product by product for the S27. Samsung has said nothing about an S28 battery. The S26 Ultra carries 5,000 mAh with 60W wired charging.
In May, a Korean electronics trade newspaper citing industry sources reported Samsung is developing a stacked memory package for phones with 15% to 30% more bandwidth, which could arrive as early as a later Exynos 2800 version or the Exynos 2900. The report, not yet contradicted, names chips, not phones.
What it might cost
There is no price and no credible leak, only a trend. The S26 series launched in the US at $899.99, $1,099.99 and $1,299.99. Samsung’s US store now lists the three from $999.99, $1,199.99 and $1,399.99, $100 above launch, or $200 for the 1TB Ultra. Device chief and co-CEO TM Roh said in February that exchange rates and parts costs made higher prices unavoidable, and that any S27 price rise would come only with unavoidable spikes like these.

Waiting has its own math. Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the S26 series, so a phone bought now stays supported well past an early 2028 launch.
What to watch next
The next date Samsung has set is Oct. 29, when it reports third-quarter results with an earnings call at 10 a.m. Korea time, or 9 p.m. ET on Oct. 28. Listen for the Exynos 2700, that flagship chip order and the 2nm ramp. Then comes the first Galaxy Unpacked of 2027, whose invitations, going by the last three years, would go out in early January or February. If the pattern holds, that show is the S27’s. We update this story as soon as Samsung says anything official about the S28.
Our latest report: Galaxy S28 release date: Samsung hasn't announced it, and the Galaxy S27 comes first
Galaxy S28 FAQ
When does the Galaxy S28 come out?
Samsung hasn’t announced the Galaxy S28 or a release date. Its last three Galaxy S lines were unveiled on Jan. 17, 2024, Jan. 22, 2025, and Feb. 25, 2026, which would point to early 2028. Samsung hasn’t confirmed that.
How much will the Galaxy S28 cost?
There’s no price and no credible price leak. Samsung’s US store now lists the Galaxy S26 from $999.99, the S26+ from $1,199.99 and the S26 Ultra from $1,399.99, each $100 above launch ($200 for the 1TB Ultra). Samsung co-CEO TM Roh said in February that any Galaxy S27 price rise would come only with unavoidable cost spikes.
Should I buy a Galaxy S26 or wait for the Galaxy S28?
Nothing about the Galaxy S28 is official, and the Galaxy S27 comes first. Samsung promises seven years of OS and security updates for the Galaxy S26, so a phone bought now stays supported long after an early 2028 launch.
What's the difference between the Galaxy S28 and the Galaxy S27?
Neither is announced. The Galaxy S27 would come about a year earlier, in early 2027 if Samsung keeps its pattern. Reports tie the S28 to a new Exynos 2800 chip and the S27 to the Exynos 2700, which Samsung says is in development.
Will the Galaxy S28 use Exynos or Snapdragon?
Samsung hasn’t said. Korean reports say the Exynos 2800 is built on Samsung’s third-generation 2nm process with Samsung’s own graphics, for the S28 family. The S26 and S26+ already use Exynos or Snapdragon depending on the market, while the S26 Ultra uses Snapdragon.
How long does Samsung update its phones?
Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the Galaxy S26 series and the Galaxy S26 FE, the same as for the Galaxy S25.
Will the Galaxy S28 Ultra have a 10-bit display?
One industry observer on social media says so. The same claim was made for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, and reports say every S26 model kept an 8-bit panel. Treat it as unproven.
Will the Galaxy S28 have a bigger battery or faster charging?
There’s no credible leak yet. The Galaxy S26 Ultra has a 5,000 mAh battery with 60W wired charging. Samsung first used a silicon-carbon battery anode in its new Galaxy Z8 foldables and says it will decide product by product for the S27.
Will the Galaxy S28 run Galaxy OS instead of One UI?
Not at launch, per the latest leaks. One leaker says Samsung will rebuild One UI with Google for the S28 but keep the One UI name, and a later report says a Galaxy OS name could follow. Samsung hasn’t commented.
Has Samsung announced the Galaxy S27?
No. As of Oct. 17, 2026, Samsung’s newsroom has no Galaxy S27 or Galaxy S28 news. Its newest Galaxy S phones are the Galaxy S26 series and the Galaxy S26 FE.
