iPhone 20 rumors: curved glass, a name in doubt and Apple's silence on the 20th birthday. Everything we know
Apple has not announced its 2027 iPhone, but reports describe glass that curves over every edge, a 2nm chip and maybe a jump to the iPhone 20 name. Here is what Apple has said, what reports and leaks add, where they clash and what to watch.

The iPhone turns 20 next year, and the phone that marks it lives only in reports and leaks. Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone on Jan. 9, 2007, and it went on sale in the US on June 29 that year. For the 10th anniversary, Apple skipped a number and launched the iPhone X. Will 2027 bring an iPhone 20?
Apple has not announced an iPhone 20 or any 2027 iPhone, and its US store lists no iPhone 19 or iPhone 20. Its newest phones are the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max and foldable iPhone Duo, announced on Sept. 9, 2026. Reports point to fall 2027 for two anniversary Pro models with glass that curves into the sides and a 2nm A21 chip, plus a second foldable. The name and the glass are in dispute, and there is no price. Every report and rumor below is still holding unless we say it changed.
What Apple did at 10
On Sept. 12, 2017, Apple announced the iPhone 8 from $699 and, beside it, the iPhone X from $999: an all-glass design, a 5.8-inch OLED display, the A11 Bionic chip and Face ID in place of the Home button. It reached stores on Nov. 3, 2017, about six weeks after the iPhone 8.
Apple has not said whether it plans anything similar for the 20th anniversary. John Ternus, Apple’s CEO since Sept. 1, took the long view in a magazine interview on Oct. 15: “I don’t see a scenario where all of a sudden, our devices disappear and we don’t have a need for an iPhone.”
IPhone 19 or iPhone 20?
Count one number a year, as Apple has since the iPhone 11, and 2027 brings the iPhone 19. On Oct. 22, 2025, a display research firm’s chief researcher told an industry conference that Apple will skip that name for an iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max, with a new iPhone Air and a second foldable. Most later reports put the next iPhone Air in spring 2027, not fall.

Supply chain analysts and a leaker have used “iPhone 19 Pro” since May 2025, but that may be a placeholder. The same leaker wrote “iPhone 20 Pro” in September 2026, and the 2026 foldable leaked as the iPhone Ultra before Apple named it iPhone Duo.
Glass, and how much of it
In April 2025 a business news reporter citing people familiar with Apple’s plans described a bold new Pro iPhone that uses more glass, and a month later a mostly glass, curved iPhone with no cutouts.
Then the reports split on a single day. On Aug. 10, 2026, an investment bank analyst citing supply chain checks said the all-glass model had been canceled over poor production yields. The business news reporter said a glass-centric redesign is on track, with glass front and back curving into the sides around a thin metal band, and that only a version with even more glass was scrapped early. On Sept. 4 the reporter called it the biggest Pro overhaul since the iPhone X. Both claims are still holding. A leaker on a Chinese social network adds that factories are being readied for glass bodies, reusing equipment built for the iPhone Air.
A screen that bends over every edge
In May 2025 a Korean trade newspaper said Apple wants an OLED panel that bends down all four edges, so the screen looks frameless. A May 2026 follow-up said the 2027 panel accepts some distortion in the curves, with a better version planned for 2028. In September 2025 a Korean trade newspaper added that Samsung will supply a panel with no polarizer layer, for a brighter, thinner screen.

The leaks keep moving. In April 2026 a leaker on a Chinese social network described a custom Samsung panel curved equally on all four sides, then said in August that the panel is flat and the curved, borderless look comes from the glass on top. A September leak from the same network puts the screens at about 6.41 and 6.96 inches, up from 6.3 and 6.9 inches on the 18 Pro and Pro Max.
Where Face ID and the camera go
On the cutout, reports and leaks point three ways. A tech business report in May 2025 said at least one 2027 iPhone gets a truly edge-to-edge display, with the front camera and Face ID under the screen. The same report said the iPhone 18 Pro would move Face ID under the screen, and Apple shipped it with a smaller Dynamic Island instead.
A display industry analyst, repeating the view in January 2026, takes the other side: the smaller Dynamic Island stays through 2027, a hole-punch camera comes on 2028 Pro models, and a truly all-screen iPhone will not come before 2030.
Leakers land in between. One on a Chinese social network says Face ID moves fully under the display while the front camera keeps a small hole-punch. A November 2025 claim that the front camera goes under the screen in 2027 has changed: in 2026 its leaker said 2027 prototypes keep a hole-punch. The foldable got there first: the iPhone Duo hides its inner camera under the display.
Inside: chip, modem, camera and buttons
The business news reporter said in June 2026 that the anniversary models use a 2nm A21 chip, with a different A21 version in the cheaper iPhone. A Taiwanese newspaper says the A21 Pro uses an improved 2nm process. In September the reporter said every 2027 iPhone will use an Apple-designed modem. The 18 Pro already runs Apple’s C2.

A leaker on a Chinese social network says solid-state buttons with haptic feedback replace physical ones, and said in May 2026 that they passed testing. One camera claim has changed: a leaker who tied a 200MP sensor to the 2027 iPhones said in April 2026 that 2028 is most likely. A Korean trade newspaper says Apple is studying a pure silicon anode battery that stores more charge.
When it could arrive
No date is set. Apple announced new iPhones on Sept. 9 in 2024, 2025 and 2026, with sales starting about 10 days later. The iPhone X, which arrived in November, was the exception.
A supply chain analyst said in May 2025 that Apple would split its launches: Pro models and a second foldable in the second half of 2027, the regular iPhone 18 and 18e in the first half. Apple’s 2026 launch matched the first step: Pro models and a foldable in the fall, no regular iPhone 18 yet. In June 2026 the business news reporter said two anniversary models, sized like the 18 Pro and Pro Max, arrive in late 2027 with a second-generation foldable. By September that foldable was reported well into testing.
The price question
There is no price and no credible leak. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, $100 more than the 17 Pro. In June 2026 Tim Cook, then Apple’s CEO, said “price increases are unavoidable” because of rising memory costs. A Taiwanese supply chain publication reported in September that Apple agreed to pay Samsung 30% to 40% more for memory and storage chips from early 2027 than in the third quarter of 2026. In the same Oct. 15 magazine interview, Ternus called memory constraints “absolutely a crisis.”

What to watch next
The iPhone Duo goes on sale Oct. 23, and Apple calls demand “nothing short of extraordinary,” with new US orders shipping in late January 2027. On Nov. 2 Apple holds its fiscal fourth-quarter results call at 2 p.m. PT. On the April 30 earnings call, Ternus said Apple has “an incredible roadmap ahead” but would not discuss its details. We update this story as soon as Apple names a 2027 iPhone, a date or a price.
