GTA 6 release date: November 19, 2026, and everything Rockstar has confirmed

GTA 6 comes out on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — 36 days from now and after two delays. It costs $79.99, preload opens Nov. 12, and no PC version has been announced.

The GTA 6 release date is Thursday, Nov. 19, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is 36 days from today, more than 13 years after GTA V hit stores and almost three years after Rockstar Games dropped the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI.

The date has held since Nov. 6, 2025, when Rockstar pushed the game back for the second time. Since then, pre-orders have opened at $79.99, the ESRB has rated the game M for Mature, and Rockstar has released 26 minutes of in-game footage. What it still hasn’t announced matters just as much: a PC version, an online mode, the size of the map and how much storage the game will need.

Below is everything Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have confirmed as of Oct. 14, and where the official record stops.

GTA 6 release date: two delays, then Nov. 19

Rockstar first acknowledged the game on Feb. 4, 2022, in a community update, writing that “active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.”

The reveal ran on a schedule that didn’t survive the internet. In a Nov. 8, 2023, message ahead of the studio’s 25th anniversary, Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser promised the first trailer “in early December,” and Rockstar later set it for Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 9 a.m. ET. The video leaked on Dec. 4, so Rockstar posted it on YouTube at about 6 p.m. ET that evening, roughly 15 hours early. Rockstar’s announcement ended on one line: “Coming 2025 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.”

Take-Two later narrowed that window to fall 2025. Then, on May 2, 2025, Rockstar moved the game to May 26, 2026. “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” the studio wrote, explaining that it needed the extra time “to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.” The same day, Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick said the company fully supported “Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision.”

The second delay came on Nov. 6, 2025, the same day Take-Two reported quarterly results under the heading “Grand Theft Auto VI now launching November 19, 2026.” It added 177 days to the wait.

We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.

Rockstar Games, announcement of the new release date, Nov. 6, 2025

The date hasn’t moved since. Rockstar repeated it in its June 24 pre-order announcement and in its Aug. 6 and Aug. 27 posts about the extended look, and Take-Two’s Aug. 7 earnings report lists Nov. 19, 2026, in its table of upcoming releases.

GTA 6 characters: Lucia, Jason and a state called Leonida

Rockstar’s official synopsis fits in a few lines. Jason and Lucia have always known the odds are against them. When an easy job goes wrong, they end up “on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America,” caught in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state of Leonida, and they will only get out alive if they rely on each other.

Lucia Caminos learned to fight from her father as soon as she could walk, her official profile says, and a fight for her family landed her in Leonida Penitentiary. Luck got her out. She wants the good life her mother has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City, she has promised herself to play it smart from now on, and life with Jason could be her way out. Her line on the game’s site: “The only thing that matters is who you know and what you got.”

Jason Duval grew up around grifters and crooks. He joined the Army to get away from a rough adolescence and ended up in the Keys, doing work for local drug runners. He wants an easy life, and it keeps getting harder. Meeting Lucia, Rockstar writes, could be the best or worst thing that ever happened to him. His line: “Another day in paradise, right?”

Rockstar describes the game as “Jason and Lucia’s story” in its pre-order announcement and on store pages. It has not said how players move between the two, or whether anyone else is playable.

The supporting cast

Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend and an associate of Brian’s, is a casual paranoiac who feels safest at home, snooping on Coast Guard communications. “What if everything on the internet was true?” is his line.

Brian Heder, a drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys, runs a boatyard with his third wife, Lori, and lets Jason live rent-free in one of his properties as long as he helps with local shakedowns. Raul Bautista is a seasoned bank robber whose recklessness raises the stakes with every job.

Three more come from the Vice City music scene. Boobie Ike turned his street past into an empire of real estate, a strip club and a recording studio, and runs the label Only Raw Records with Dre’Quan Priest, who was always more hustler than gangster. Their signing, Real Dimez, is a rap duo of school friends Bae-Luxe and Roxy.

GTA 6 map: Vice City and five regions beyond it

Vice City, in Rockstar’s words, is “still the sun and fun capital of America.” The official site names Ocean Beach, with its pastel Art Deco hotels and white sand; Little Cuba and its panaderías; the Tisha-Wocka flea market; and VC Port, billed as “the cruise ship capital of the world.”

Beyond the city, Rockstar lists five regions:

  • Leonida KeysA tropical island chain where life “isn’t flashy but it’s easy,” next to some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in America
  • GrassriversA primeval swamp where alligators are the main attraction, though not the only predators in the mangroves
  • Port GellhornA faded resort town of cheap motels, closed attractions and empty malls
  • AmbrosiaThe industrial heartland, where the Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs and the local biker gang provides almost everything else
  • Mount Kalaga National ParkHunting, fishing and off-road country at the northern edge

Rockstar does not compare Leonida to any real state. Still, a beach district of pastel Art Deco hotels, a tropical island chain and sawgrass swamps full of alligators will look familiar to anyone who has spent time in South Florida. What Rockstar has not published is the size of the map, or whether Leonida holds more than the six areas it has shown.

GTA 6 trailers, a cover reveal and 26 minutes of footage

Rockstar’s own YouTube counters show the scale of the hype. Trailer 1, about a minute and a half long, introduced Leonida, Vice City and the 2025 window, and had more than 297 million views as of Oct. 14.

Trailer 2 arrived on May 6, 2025, with no advance notice. It runs 2 minutes 47 seconds, is set to “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters and was captured entirely on PlayStation 5, Take-Two says. It has passed 184 million views.

The cover came next. A 33-second video on June 18, 2026, revealed the official art: the logo at the center, surrounded by Jason and Lucia, a helicopter, a motorcycle rider, Boobie Ike, a flamingo over a speedboat, an alligator, Raul Bautista and a yellow car with scissor doors. The same post set the start date for pre-orders.

The longest look so far premiered on Netflix on Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. ET, before reaching YouTube and the game’s site at 9 p.m. “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” runs 26 minutes 49 seconds. Rockstar’s description: “Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, this extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI showcases the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.” It had more than 31 million views on YouTube by Oct. 14.

As for GTA 6 Trailer 3, there isn’t an official one. Videos with that title on YouTube are fan-made, and Rockstar has not announced another trailer before launch.

Single player, six radio stations and a garage for stolen goods

The biggest gameplay fact is also the simplest. “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience,” Rockstar wrote in its pre-order announcement, and Sony’s FAQ for the game says the same. Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 online mode, a date for one or its format.

GTA Online, which runs on GTA V, is still getting new content. Rockstar released The Kortz Center Heist update on July 14 and is running Halloween events through October. It has not said what will happen to GTA Online once GTA 6 is out.

Music got its own reveal on Oct. 8. Rockstar promises “the biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio yet,” from classic rock to talk radio, plus on-demand podcasts for the first time in the series. Players can listen in vehicles and on foot, through new headphones and earbuds connected to the characters' smartphones. Six stations are official so far:

  • Cocoteo FMLatin music, hosted by El Martillo and La Gata
  • Back Country RadioCountry, with MW and Delta Dawne
  • AfroBank FMAfrican music, with Burna and Palmsy
  • The Chamber 106.6Metal, with DJ Kerry and DJ Tom
  • Flash FMPop, with Robyn and Alex, on a station Rockstar calls a Vice City institution
  • Dirty South ClassicsSouthern rap, with Trick and Trina

A separate release, “Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album,” made with Atlantic Records, collects 34 original tracks and comes out with the game on Nov. 19. The first singles arrived Sept. 17 from artists including Yung Lean with Future and Metro Boomin, Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen, Rauw Alejandro and Keith Richards. The album page has since added Fuerza Regida and Cardi B.

Rockstar’s descriptions and screenshots show vehicles for land, water and air, from sports cars and motorcycles to jet skis, airboats, a seaplane and helicopters. The Shore Court garage from the pre-order pack comes with a weapon locker and a secure spot for stolen goods waiting to be fenced. Raul Bautista’s profile points to bank robberies, and official descriptions and captions mention diving, hunting, fishing, off-road trails, dirt bike and ATV stunts and police chases, with alligators, cougars, dolphins and sea turtles among the wildlife.

Some basics remain unannounced: frame rate and resolution targets, graphics modes, the length of the story, the number of missions and whether there are multiple endings.

GTA 6 price: $79.99, $99.99 and the pre-order fine print

Pre-orders opened at midnight local time on June 25 around the world, through PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and other retailers. There are two editions. In the U.S., the Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99 on both console stores; in the U.K., the prices are £69.99 and £89.99. Microsoft Store also sells an Ultimate Edition upgrade for $20 for anyone who already owns the standard game.

Every pre-order and every purchase made before Nov. 20 comes with the Vintage Vice City Pack, which Rockstar describes as “a collection of items that flash back to when the neon burned brightest.” It includes a '55 Vapid Stanier sedan, a Shore Court garage near Ocean Beach, outfits and hairstyles for both leads and a weapon finish inspired by Tommy Vercetti’s palm-tree shirt. Digital pre-orders also include a free month of GTA+, Rockstar’s subscription.

The Ultimate Edition adds what Rockstar calls “an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story.” The Microsoft Store listing spells it out:

  • VehiclesA '95 Grotti Cheetah, a Dinka Enduro motorcycle and a Crest kayak at Jason’s safehouse, a Shitzu Squalo jet ski, upgrades for a Vapid Ganado pickup and a '67 Vapid Dominator buggy with a Paradise Garage in Watson Bay
  • WeaponsHawk & Little Morgan revolvers “from the Vercetti Estate,” plus engraved pistols for Jason and Lucia
  • MissionsA raid on a base of the PTT Youngin$ gang and a job restoring classic cars for a collector named Wyman
  • PlacesRideout Customs, Sara’s Unisex Salon, the Stock 305 clothing store, the Electric Fang Tattoo parlor with more than 50 designs by the art collective FAILE, and One-Eyed Willie’s at Lake Leonida
  • StyleOutfits, hairstyles and tattoos, plus Goodtime Gear clothing featuring Macca the Gator

Boxed copies need a download, too. Rockstar says the physical version contains “a download code inside the box,” and it goes on sale Nov. 12. That is also the day digital pre-orders can start preloading. A separate collector’s set, “The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection,” arrives Nov. 19 from the Rockstar Store with a Macca the Gator figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses and a New Era cap, among other items. It does not include the game.

Ratings and languages

The ESRB rates the game M for Mature 17+, citing blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content and the use of drugs and alcohol, with in-game purchases. In Europe, it carries PEGI 18; in Australia, R18+. Ratings for Japan and Germany were still pending on Oct. 14.

Voice acting is in English only. Menus and subtitles are available in 13 languages: English, German, French, Italian, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish for Spain and for Mexico, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

PS5 Pro, Xbox Series S and the PC question

GTA 6 is a current-gen console game. Sony’s page labels it “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” and its FAQ says the game will be available on PS5 and PS5 Pro on Nov. 19. The same FAQ is blunt about older hardware: the game “will only be playable on PlayStation 5 consoles. It will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles.” On PS5, Sony promises Tempest 3D Audio, fast loading from the console’s SSD, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the DualSense controller, and Remote Play, the feature PlayStation Portal uses to stream games from a home console.

On Xbox, the game carries the “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” label. The cheaper Xbox Series S gets the game on the same day as the Series X. What neither company has published is how the game runs: Rockstar has not announced resolution, frame rate or graphics modes for any console, including PS5 Pro and Series S.

Rockstar and Take-Two say both Trailer 2 and the extended look were captured on PlayStation 5, and the game’s site carries a “Plays Best On PlayStation 5” banner. That is a marketing arrangement with Sony. It does not change the release: the Xbox version launches the same day.

GTA 6 file size: will it fit on your console?

Neither Rockstar nor the console stores have published the game’s install size. Since even boxed copies are a download code, every player will need an internet connection and enough free storage, so clearing space before preloading opens on Nov. 12 is the safe move.

No GTA 6 PC release date, for now

Rockstar has not announced GTA 6 for PC, and nothing official points to a date. In its Aug. 7 earnings report, Take-Two lists NBA 2K27 and Judas with PC among their platforms, while GTA 6 appears only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

History offers context, not a promise. GTA V launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Sept. 17, 2013, and reached PC on April 14, 2015, 574 days later. Rockstar has not said whether GTA 6 will follow a similar path. The same goes for Nintendo Switch 2, phones and cloud streaming services: none has been announced.

The $8 billion year for Take-Two

For Take-Two Interactive, GTA 6 is the center of the financial year. The company’s fiscal year runs from April through March, so a Nov. 19 launch falls in the third quarter of fiscal 2027, the October-to-December holiday stretch. When Take-Two moved the game to November in 2025, Zelnick said the company expected “record levels of Net Bookings in Fiscal 2027, which will establish a new baseline for our business.”

The numbers since then show how big that baseline is meant to be. Take-Two finished fiscal 2026, which ended March 31, with $6.72 billion in net bookings, its measure of products and services sold digitally or shipped to stores during a period. On May 21, it forecast $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion for fiscal 2027, and on Aug. 7 it repeated that range, alongside GAAP net revenue of $7.9 billion to $8.1 billion and more than $1 billion in operating cash flow.

We believe Fiscal 2027 will establish new record levels of operating performance driven by the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, along with strong execution across our portfolio.

The quarters before launch are quieter. Net bookings for April through June were $1.39 billion, down 3% from a year earlier, and Take-Two guided to $1.62 billion to $1.67 billion for July through September. Recurrent consumer spending, from in-game purchases, add-on content and ads rather than new copies, made up 84% of first-quarter net bookings, with the Grand Theft Auto series among the largest contributors.

GTA 6 arrives as a single-player game, so its launch is about copies sold rather than an online economy. The series as a whole has sold more than 470 million units worldwide, up from more than 440 million in May 2025.

Take-Two has not disclosed how many copies have been preordered. The first quarter to include GTA 6 sales is October through December, and the company has not yet dated that report; the equivalent one this year came out on Feb. 3.

For the rest of the industry, the date matters as much as the numbers. A console-only launch in the heart of the holiday season gives PS4 and Xbox One owners a concrete reason to upgrade, and any game released near Nov. 19 will compete with GTA 6 for the same players' time and money. The price sets a marker, too: $79.99 for the standard edition, with a $20 step up to Ultimate.

The next official checkpoint is Monday, Nov. 9, when Take-Two reports its July-to-September results after the market closes, with a conference call at 4:30 p.m. ET, 10 days before launch. Three days later, on Thursday, Nov. 12, preloading opens for digital pre-orders and boxed copies reach stores. After that, only one date is left on the calendar: Thursday, Nov. 19.
