Does GTA 6 have online? GTA 6 Online release date explained
Not at launch. Rockstar calls GTA 6 "a single player experience," and it has not announced an online mode or a GTA 6 Online release date. The current GTA Online keeps running.
- PS5
- PS5 Pro
- Xbox Series X|S
GTA 6 launches without an online mode. In its pre-order announcement on June 24, 2026, Rockstar Games wrote: “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience.” Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 Online, so there is no GTA 6 Online release date.
What the official sources say
Three official places say the same thing in almost the same words:
- Rockstar’s NewswireJune 24, 2026: “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience.”
- Take-Two’s press releaseThe same day: the game “features a single-player experience.”
- Sony’s FAQOn the PlayStation site, answering whether the game has multiplayer modes: it “is a single-player experience.”
The Microsoft Store tags the game “single player.” No store lists online multiplayer, crossplay or an online subscription requirement for GTA 6.
What happens to GTA Online
The GTA Online you can play today — built on GTA 5 — has no announced end date. Rockstar and Take-Two have not said anything about shutting it down when GTA 6 arrives, and Rockstar keeps adding to it.
Rockstar is still shipping new content for it. The Kortz Center Heist arrived on July 14, 2026 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. Since June 18, 2026, digital GTA 5 on PS4 and Xbox One upgrades free to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.

GTA+ comes with digital pre-orders
Every digital pre-order of GTA 6 includes one month of GTA+, Rockstar’s paid membership for GTA Online. Take-Two calls it “the best way to get the most out of the ever-evolving world of GTA Online,” and it includes the GTA+ Games Library.
Will GTA 6 get online later?
Rockstar has not said. GTA 5 shipped in September 2013 and GTA Online followed two weeks later as a separate mode; Red Dead Online followed Red Dead Redemption 2 by about a month as a beta. Neither pattern has been announced for GTA 6, and the “single player experience” wording leaves the door neither open nor closed.
Any GTA 6 Online date you see — “2027” or otherwise — is not from Rockstar or Take-Two. This page is updated as soon as Rockstar announces online plans for GTA 6.
