GTA 6 preload date: Nov. 12, 2026, at midnight local time, a week before launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S
GTA 6 preload begins on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2026, according to Rockstar, and Rockstar's support pages put the start at midnight local time. That's a week before the game unlocks at midnight ET on Thursday, Nov. 19, on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Digital pre-orders can download the game during that week, and the boxed version, which holds a download code and no disc, goes on sale on Nov. 12 so its code works for preload too. Rockstar hasn't announced the download size, and preload gives players a week to clear space. GTA 6 costs $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, and the PC version comes later.

What preload means
Preloading means downloading the game files before launch. The files stay locked until the release, so nobody can play GTA 6 early, but the game is ready the moment it unlocks, without a giant download at midnight on launch night.
Rockstar hasn’t announced how big that download is, and the exact number should appear in the stores once preload opens. Our GTA 6 file size page tracks it and explains how to make room in time.
Who can preload GTA 6
Anyone who pre-orders the digital version on PS5 or Xbox Series X and S can preload from Nov. 12. Digital pre-orders also include a free month of GTA+, and every copy bought before Nov. 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack.
Boxed copies work for preload too. Rockstar says physical versions only contain a download code inside the box, to support preload on Nov. 12, and a disc won’t be included. The boxed version goes on sale on Nov. 12, and Rockstar’s support pages say the code can be used as soon as you have it.
