Hogwarts Legacy on Switch 2: out since June 5, 2025, for $59.99, with mouse controls and a discount for Switch owners

Hogwarts got a visual upgrade on Nintendo’s new console, and Switch players don’t have to pay full price to see it. Here’s what the Switch 2 edition costs and changes.

When did Hogwarts Legacy come out on Switch 2?

On June 5, 2025, the same day Nintendo Switch 2 launched. Hogwarts Legacy first came out on PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC on Feb. 10, 2023, and the original Switch version followed on Nov. 14, 2023.

Nintendo’s US eShop lists the Switch 2 edition at $59.99, the same price as the Switch version, and the Digital Deluxe Edition at $69.99. The Dark Arts Pack is sold separately for $19.99. The game is developed by Avalanche Software, published by WB Games and rated T for Teen by the ESRB.

What’s better than the Switch version?

According to Nintendo’s store, this edition has been enhanced for Switch 2 with Joy-Con 2 mouse sensor support and improved graphics, audio, load times and controls. It also supports the touch screen and surround sound, and cloud saves need a Nintendo Switch Online membership. It plays in TV, tabletop and handheld modes.

The download is bigger too. Nintendo’s store data puts the Switch 2 edition at about 23.1 GB, while the original Switch version needs at least 15 GB. Neither Nintendo nor WB Games lists a frame rate for the Switch 2 edition on its store or support pages that we checked.

Can Switch owners upgrade?

Not through an upgrade pack, but there’s a discount. WB Games' support site has an article on the Nintendo Switch owner’s discount for the Switch 2 edition, aimed at players who already own Hogwarts Legacy on the original Switch, and Nintendo’s US store doesn’t list a separate upgrade pack for the game.

Your progress doesn’t have to start over. WB Games' support site also explains how to transfer a Hogwarts Legacy save between console generations, so a Switch save can come along to Switch 2.

Is Hogwarts Legacy 2 coming to Switch 2?

Nobody knows yet. Warner Bros. Discovery named the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy in its games pipeline in August 2026, but hasn’t announced platforms, a studio or a release date. The first game has sold more than 40 million units, according to Warner Bros.
