What Warner Bros. has confirmed
The sequel fits Warner Bros.' new plan for games. In February 2025, after what it called a disappointing 2024 for its games business, Warner Bros. Discovery said it would focus on four franchises that have each made more than $1 billion in consumer sales: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat and DC, especially Batman. In the same letter, it said Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023.
In August 2026, the company said its first games under that plan were LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and the mobile game Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, and that the second Hogwarts Legacy is among the games that will grow its games profits from here.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 and the HBO Harry Potter series
Warner Bros. Discovery’s Harry Potter series premieres on HBO Max on Christmas Day 2026. The company expects the show to boost demand for its Harry Potter experiences and consumer products, and it mentioned the show in the same August letter that confirmed the game. It hasn’t said whether the sequel’s story or release is tied to the series.
