Super Mario Sunshine on Switch 2 takes a $49.99 membership, unless you own 3D All-Stars

Super Mario Sunshine is in Switch 2’s GameCube app, and that version takes a paid membership. Here’s what you need, what it costs and the other route for people who own the older collection.

How do you play Super Mario Sunshine on Switch 2?

You need a Switch 2, a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership and the Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics app, which is listed as free. Nintendo added the game to the app on Aug. 13, 2026, and it’s playable on Switch 2 only.

How much does it cost?

$49.99 a year for one person, in the US. The family plan runs $79.99 a year and covers up to eight Nintendo Accounts. Here’s how the plans compare on Nintendo’s page:

Nintendo’s fine print says the membership renews automatically at the then-current price unless you cancel. Access runs through that membership, since Nintendo offers these games to members.

Can you buy Super Mario Sunshine on its own?

Nintendo lists no separate purchase on Switch 2. The membership is the only route its post names, so anyone without the older collection pays the plan price to play.

The other route is the older collection. Super Mario 3D All-Stars carried the game to the original Switch in 2020, and Nintendo’s support page lists it for Switch 2 after the Ver. 1.1.4 update, with no membership. It left the eShop in 2021, and buyers from before April 1, 2021, can still play and redownload it. Nintendo’s UK site sends everyone else to physical copies at retailers while stocks last. Our upcoming Switch 2 games page covers what Nintendo’s console has ahead, and our next Nintendo Direct page tracks when Nintendo could name more.

What else comes with the GameCube app?

Nintendo’s app listing showed 11 GameCube games on Nov. 7:

The Expansion Pack also covers classics from Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Virtual Boy, Super NES, Game Boy, NES and SEGA Genesis on Switch 2.

What is Super Mario Sunshine?

Mario, Peach and a group of Toads head to Isle Delfino, an island resort, for a holiday. They arrive to find the island covered in mess and Mario blamed for it. You clean up with FLUDD, a water pack on Mario’s back that sprays enemies and launches Mario through the air, and you recover the island’s Shine Sprites along the way.

This page is updated as soon as Nintendo changes these plan prices, adds another GameCube game or offers Super Mario Sunshine separately.
