There’s no separate Witcher 3 remake, but there is a new version of the game, and it’s already out. Here’s what changed, what it costs and what comes next.
Is there a Witcher 3 remake?
Not as a separate game. The new version is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, which CD Projekt Red announced on Aug. 25, 2026, and released on Sept. 29, 2026, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch 2. On those platforms it replaced the Complete Edition. It arrived on the date the studio first announced, so it wasn’t delayed.

Is The Witcher 3 Remastered free?
For owners, yes. It’s a free upgrade for anyone who owns The Witcher 3 on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, PS5 or Xbox Series X and S. Owners of the original Switch version can claim the Switch 2 version at no extra cost, including those with a physical copy, though the free upgrade isn’t offered in Russia and Belarus. Everyone who owned only the base game also gets Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

New players pay $49.99 on Steam, or $59.99 for the Switch 2 version on Nintendo’s US store, before discounts, with both expansions included. The game is also sold on Battle.net and in the Microsoft Store as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Old saves work and achievements carry over, but your skills are reset. Depending on the platform, you can still go back to an earlier version, and on Steam the Classic 1.32 version still launches.
What changed in the Remastered version
The biggest gameplay change is the skill system. Skills now sit in a skill tree with three ranks each, and new skills need prerequisite skills instead of a set number of points. You can also reforge gear to change its look without touching its stats, a service offered only by the master craftsmen Yoana and Hattori, and many regular monsters got reworked attacks, counters and movement.

The visuals got an improved shading model, new textures and models based on The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, ray-traced local shadows and native DirectX 12 rendering on PC. The Switch 2 version adds mouse controls, gyro aiming, motion controls and touch screen support. CD Projekt Red has kept patching it since launch, with Hotfix 5.00c on Steam on Oct. 1 and Patch 5.01 on Oct. 8, which fixed runaway boats, a stamina drain bug and more.
The next Witcher 3 release is Songs of the Past, a new full expansion due in 2027. CD Projekt Red said on Sept. 9, 2026, that it will also launch on Switch 2, and Nintendo’s US store already lists it, without a date or price. After that comes The Witcher 4, which CD Projekt Red is targeting for 2028.

This page is updated as soon as CD Projekt Red announces a release date for Songs of the Past or a new Witcher 3 patch.
