Cyberpunk 2 release date: still in preproduction, with no date, platforms or trailer
Cyberpunk 2 doesn't have a release date. CD Projekt Red said on Sept. 3, 2026, that the game is in preproduction, and its latest report puts the team at 184 developers as of July 31, 2026. The studio hasn't announced a release year, platforms, a setting or a trailer, and its release plan through 2028 covers only Witcher games.
Cyberpunk 2 is real and staffing up, but it’s still early. Here’s what CD Projekt Red has said in its reports, and what it hasn’t.
When does Cyberpunk 2 come out?
There’s no release date and no release year. In its investor chat on Sept. 3, 2026, CD Projekt Red answered a question about the game plainly: “Cyberpunk 2 is currently in preproduction.” The game, codenamed Project Orion until 2025, finished its conceptual phase that spring, and CD Projekt announced the move to preproduction on May 28, 2025.
The studio’s public release plan doesn’t include it yet. CD Projekt Red plans a major Witcher release every year through 2028: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered came out on Sept. 29, 2026, the Songs of the Past expansion is due in 2027 and The Witcher 4 is targeting 2028. Who is making Cyberpunk 2?
It’s being developed in-house at CD Projekt Red North America, the studio’s hub in Boston, which also includes a team in Vancouver. At the end of June 2026, the Boston hub had 275 employees, 88% of them developers. CD Projekt Red describes Cyberpunk 2 as the next mainline Cyberpunk game, with visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5.
The team keeps growing. CD Projekt Red’s first-half report counts 184 developers on Cyberpunk 2 as of July 31, 2026, up from 163 on April 30. For comparison, The Witcher 4 had 519 developers on the same date. The studio says it adjusts the Cyberpunk 2 headcount to the project’s current needs.
Is there a Cyberpunk 2 trailer?
No. CD Projekt Red hasn’t released a trailer, footage, screenshots or a story outline. It has only said that the game draws on the foundations of Cyberpunk 2077 and expands on them, with a story-rich, morally ambiguous experience. Settings, characters and trailers shared online as Cyberpunk 2 leaks haven’t been confirmed by CD Projekt Red.
What platforms will Cyberpunk 2 be on?
CD Projekt Red hasn’t announced platforms. Cyberpunk 2077 first came out in 2020 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, reached PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2022, and arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 and selected Macs in 2025. A free PS5 Pro update followed on April 8, 2026.
Cyberpunk while you wait
Cyberpunk 2077 passed 40 million copies sold in July 2026, counting the base game and the Ultimate Edition, and its Phantom Liberty expansion, released on Sept. 26, 2023, topped 15 million copies in July. When we checked Steam on Oct. 17, 2026, Cyberpunk 2077 was on sale for $17.99, down from $59.99.
The Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, made with Studio Trigger, premieres on Oct. 20, 2026. CD Projekt Red is also in an early conceptual phase on Project Hadar, a game in a new original universe.
