The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past comes out in 2027, and CD Projekt Red hasn’t announced a day. Here’s what the new expansion adds, where it’s coming and what it should cost.
When does Songs of the Past come out?
CD Projekt Red schedules The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past for 2027. It hasn’t announced a day, a month or a price. Steam lists it as coming soon, and the Nintendo US store lists 2027.
The studio announced the expansion on May 27, 2026, and showed its first teaser at gamescom Opening Night Live on Aug. 25, 2026, alongside the reveal of The Witcher 3 Remastered. It’s the third expansion for The Witcher 3 after Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and the first new Geralt story in more than a decade.
Story: Geralt in Letten
Songs of the Past brings Geralt of Rivia back to the Path alongside an old friend. Geralt travels to Letten, a brand-new region rich in rural tradition and folklore, where people enjoy bountiful harvests and lavish festivals. Below that idyllic surface lurks a long-dormant evil and a dark curse at Letten’s center.

CD Projekt Red describes an authentic Witcher story full of choices and consequences, where the fate of the whole land and even Geralt’s closest friendship are at stake.
What’s new: the chain, mutagens and quests
Geralt gets a new weapon to master, the chain, along with unique mutagens and new abilities, for fights against never-before-seen foes. The expansion adds dozens of new quests and points of interest and hours of new content.

It also builds on Remastered, which brought upgraded visuals, enhanced combat, improved movement, revamped mount handling, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification and new finishers to The Witcher 3 on Sept. 29, 2026.
Platforms and stores
Songs of the Past is coming to PC through GOG, Steam, the Epic Games Store and Battle.net, and to PS5, Xbox Series X and S and Nintendo Switch 2. The first announcement listed PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC, and CD Projekt Red added Switch 2 and Battle.net in August.

Through the studio’s partnership with Blizzard, buying the expansion on Battle.net unlocks a special Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo 4. You can wishlist Songs of the Past on Steam and the Nintendo eShop, and pre-orders hadn’t opened there on Oct. 19, 2026.
Songs of the Past price
CD Projekt Red calls Songs of the Past a paid expansion and hasn’t announced its price. Expected price: about $29.99, our estimate, the price of Phantom Liberty, the studio’s latest expansion, as our Cyberpunk 2077 DLC page explains. Blood and Wine cost $19.99 at launch in 2016.

The base game is easier to get into as well. Since Aug. 25, 2026, every owner of The Witcher 3 gets Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no extra cost, and on Oct. 19, 2026, The Witcher 3 Remastered cost $49.99 on Steam and $59.99 for Switch 2 on the Nintendo US store, with both expansions included.
How to get ready for Songs of the Past
The Witcher 3 Remastered is a free upgrade for owners on qualifying platforms, and it includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. On Switch 2, it’s a native version for the first time. CD Projekt Red has kept patching it since launch, with Patch 5.00b on PS5 and Xbox on Oct. 1, 2026, Hotfix 5.00c on PC the same day and Patch 5.01 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S on Oct. 8, 2026.

That makes the fall of 2026 a good moment to replay Geralt’s main story and both earlier expansions, or to play them for the first time, before Letten opens in 2027. CD Projekt Red pitched Remastered exactly that way, as the perfect way to relive Geralt’s adventure ahead of the expansion.
Who is making it
CD Projekt Red is co-developing Songs of the Past with Fool’s Theory, a studio whose leadership is made up of Witcher 3 veterans, and Steam also lists Yigsoft, the co-developer of Remastered. The Witcher 3 has sold more than 65 million copies, and the series more than 90 million, according to CD Projekt.

Songs of the Past and The Witcher 4
CD Projekt Red is aiming for one large Witcher release a year: Remastered in 2026, Songs of the Past in 2027 and The Witcher 4 in 2028, when Ciri takes over as the main protagonist.
