Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5: the free Edgerunners 2 Update arrives Oct. 22 on PC, PS5 and Xbox

Cyberpunk 2077 gets its first big content update since July 2025 on Oct. 22. Here’s when update 2.5 arrives, what CD Projekt Red has shown and how it ties into the new anime.

When does Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5 come out?

Oct. 22, 2026. CD Projekt Red announced the Edgerunners 2 Update, or Update 2.5, on Oct. 20, the day the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix. It arrives on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on Oct. 22, and the Nintendo Switch 2 version follows shortly after, according to the studio, which calls it a free update.

The studio hasn’t given a release hour. It shows the update in a special REDstreams episode on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 5 p.m. CEST, which is 11 a.m. ET and 8 a.m. PT, on Twitch, YouTube and Steam, and it publishes the official patch notes the same day.

What’s new in update 2.5

CD Projekt Red describes Update 2.5 as a range of new items and features, including content inspired by Edgerunners 2. The REDstreams announcement names two of them: cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle. CD Projekt Red scheduled the official patch notes for Oct. 21, after the stream.

The update has its own official illustration. CD Projekt Red credits Taisei Uchida for the original art, Yukiko Kakita for the ink and paint check and Yuichiro Tozawa for the special effects.

It’s the game’s first big content update since Update 2.3 on July 17, 2025, which added four vehicles, AutoDrive and self-driving Delamain cabs. Patch 2.31 followed on Sept. 11, 2025, and a free PS5 Pro update arrived on April 8, 2026.

What the first Edgerunners update added

There’s a clear precedent. CD Projekt Red released the Edgerunners Update, Patch 1.6, on Sept. 6, 2022, a week before the first anime premiered on Netflix on Sept. 13. It added a wardrobe for up to six saved outfits, three new gigs, six new firearms, five new melee weapons, cross-progression between platforms and secrets from the anime hidden around Night City, including new equipment. The free REDmod modding tools launched the same day.

Update 2.5 repeats that pairing of a free game update and a new season of the show, this time landing two days after the premiere instead of a week before it.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix on Oct. 20, 2026, with all 10 episodes at once. It’s a standalone story from CD Projekt Red and the Japanese animation studio TRIGGER, arriving four years after the first season’s release, with a new cast. Weak is a washed-up edgerunner legend once known as King, D is a Snake Nation netrunner out for revenge, Roman Carax is a young cinephile, and Talia grew up in corpo towers before falling in with Maelstrom.

Kai Ikarashi directs, Kanno Ichigo is the lead character designer, and Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer and producer, alongside Masahiko Otsuka. Both seasons stream only on Netflix. CD Projekt Red calls Edgerunners 2 a standalone series, with a story separate from the first season’s, told through the intertwining paths of a veteran edgerunner, a young cinephile, a chrome-obsessed delinquent and a Snake Nation netrunner.

Which platforms get update 2.5

Update 2.5 comes to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S on Oct. 22, and to Switch 2 after that. The PS4 and Xbox One versions aren’t on CD Projekt Red’s list, and their owners can move to the PS5 or Xbox Series X and S version through the studio’s free upgrade. Cross-progression, added in Patch 1.6, uploads your latest saves to the cloud, so you can pick up a run on another platform after you log in.

Cyberpunk 2077 price ahead of update 2.5

The update costs nothing, and the game is on sale on Steam. On Oct. 20, 2026, Cyberpunk 2077 cost $17.99, 70% off its $59.99 price, and the Phantom Liberty expansion cost $17.99, 40% off its $29.99 price, so the pair came to $35.98.

Phantom Liberty is the game’s only paid expansion, as our Cyberpunk 2077 DLC page explains. CD Projekt said on July 3, 2026, that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold 40 million copies and Phantom Liberty 15 million.

Update 2.5 and Cyberpunk 2

The update gives players a reason to return to Night City while the sequel is years off. Cyberpunk 2 is in preproduction, with 184 developers as of July 31, 2026, and CD Projekt Red’s release plan through 2028 covers only Witcher games. Our Cyberpunk 2 release date page tracks the sequel.
