The Switch 2 version of The Witcher 3 is waiting for its own patch, and CD Projekt Red says it will look sharper. Here’s what the studio has said about the next update and what the Switch 2 version already has.

When is the next Witcher 3 Switch 2 update?

CD Projekt Red hasn’t given a date. Patch 5.01 came out on Oct. 8, 2026, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, with fixes for runaway boats, a stamina drain bug, a save data issue and visual artifacts from dynamic resolution scaling. Switch 2 wasn’t on the list.

In the same notes, CD Projekt Red said it’s working on an update for the Switch 2 version that brings it closer to the other versions, with the same global changes they got. It will also improve Switch 2 specific areas such as image clarity and sharpness. The studio promised more details within days, and as of Oct. 17, 2026, it hasn’t announced a release date for that update.

How does the free upgrade from Switch work?

If you own The Witcher 3 on the original Switch, you can claim The Witcher 3 Remastered on Switch 2 at no extra cost, whether you have a digital copy or a physical card. It’s a separate download that shows up as its own icon on the Home menu. CD Projekt Red says the free upgrade isn’t available in Russia and Belarus.

New players pay $59.99 in Nintendo’s US eShop, with the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions included. The game came out on Switch 2 on Sept. 29, 2026, the same day as on other platforms, it’s rated M for Mature by the ESRB, and Nintendo’s store data puts the download at about 48.6 GB.

What does the Switch 2 version add?

New ways to play. CD Projekt Red lists four playstyles: Handheld, Pro Controller, Dual Grip with motion controls, and Mouse Sensor. Motion controls can cast signs, fire the crossbow, throw bombs, use consumables, call your horse and make it gallop or stop, and gyro aiming works in three of the playstyles. Touch input works in menus, dialogue, the world map, photo mode and Gwent.

The game also supports Joy-Con 2 HD Rumble, variable refresh rate in handheld mode and HDR, and Nintendo’s store lists 120 Hz output on compatible TVs. CD Projekt Red says the Switch 2 version uses the console’s hardware to improve performance and visuals, but it hasn’t published a frame rate target for it.

Songs of the Past, the third expansion, set in the new realm of Letten. CD Projekt Red says it launches on Switch 2 in 2027, and Nintendo’s US store lists it without a price. After that, the studio is targeting 2028 for The Witcher 4.
