Split Fiction on Switch 2: $49.99, a 69.2 GB download and a free Friend's Pass for your co-op partner
Split Fiction has been on Nintendo Switch 2 since the console's June 5, 2025, launch, three months after it came out on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Nintendo's US eShop sells it for $49.99, the same price as on Steam, and EA says the gameplay and story are the same as on other platforms. Nintendo lists a 69.2 GB download and no physical edition. A free Friend's Pass lets a partner who doesn't own the game play the whole story with you online, across platforms, and GameShare lets a second player join locally from one copy.

Split Fiction runs on Switch 2 with every co-op option the other versions have, and a few Nintendo ones on top. Here’s what it costs, how big it is and how to play it with a friend.
When did Split Fiction come out on Switch 2?
On June 5, 2025, the same day Nintendo Switch 2 launched. Hazelight Studios and EA had released the game on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S on March 6, 2025, and EA announced the Switch 2 version on April 2, 2025, as a launch title. Hazelight said on May 15, 2025, that the game had sold 4 million copies.

Split Fiction follows Mio and Zoe, two writers, one of sci-fi and one of fantasy, who get trapped inside their own stories. It’s a co-op game built for two players, from the studio behind It Takes Two. EA says the Switch 2 version has the same gameplay and story as on other platforms, and Nintendo’s US store lists it for Switch 2 only. It’s rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
How much is it, and is there a physical copy?
Nintendo’s US eShop sells Split Fiction for $49.99, with no discount when we checked on Oct. 17, 2026. Steam sells the PC version for the same $49.99.
Nintendo’s US store lists only a digital standard edition, and Nintendo’s UK store also sells it as a download. EA’s Switch 2 announcements of April and June 2025 don’t mention a physical edition.
How does co-op work on Switch 2?
There are four ways to play together. The free Friend’s Pass lets a partner who doesn’t own the game join a full-game owner for the entire adventure online, on any platform. Two Friend’s Pass holders can try only the early stages together. One player must own the full game, and both need a persistent internet connection and an EA Account.

Crossplay works with a free EA Account, so a Switch 2 player can team up with a friend on PC, PS5 or Xbox. Online play also needs a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. On the same console, couch co-op splits the screen, and Nintendo’s US store says it needs a pair of Joy-Con or another controller for each player. GameShare lets one copy cover local play over wireless, and EA says a Nintendo Switch owner can join, but only with a Switch 2 player. GameChat adds voice chat, and video with a Switch 2 camera or USB camera.
How does it run, and how big is it?
Nintendo lists a 69.2 GB download, more than a quarter of the 256 GB of internal storage in Switch 2, and its US store says the game needs a 75 GB download and may need a microSD Express card. Check your free space before you buy.

Nintendo’s and EA’s store pages don’t list a frame rate or resolution for the Switch 2 version. EA says it’s optimized for handheld play, and it supports TV, tabletop and handheld modes, the touch screen, surround sound and cloud saves with Nintendo Switch Online.
What else has Hazelight brought to Switch 2?
It Takes Two, the studio’s previous co-op game, came to Switch 2 on Oct. 15, 2026, for $39.99 in Nintendo’s US eShop, with its own free Friend’s Pass. The same day, Hazelight announced the Hazelight Collection on Steam, with Split Fiction, It Takes Two and A Way Out. Hazelight hasn’t announced a sequel; see our Split Fiction 2 release date page.
