Zelda’s big action spin-off returns on Switch 2 in early 2027. Here’s when Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Definitive Edition comes out, what it costs and what changes from the 2020 game.

When does the Definitive Edition come out?

On Thursday, Feb. 25, 2027, only on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo announced it in the Nintendo Direct of Sept. 9, 2026, and pre-orders opened that day. The original Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity came out on Switch on Nov. 20, 2020, so the new version arrives a little over six years later.

Price, physical edition and pre-orders

The digital version costs $59.99 on the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo’s own store lists the physical edition at $69.99, shipping on Feb. 25. Both are open for pre-order. The digital download needs more than 20 GB of space, and the ESRB rates the game T for Teen for Fantasy Violence.

What’s new on Switch 2?

The Definitive Edition retells how Calamity Ganon nearly destroyed Hyrule with enhanced resolution and frame rate, and Nintendo’s trailer promises battles at 60 frames per second. It includes the Expansion Pass, which sold for $19.99 on Switch and raises the roster from 18 to 21 fighters, among them Link, Zelda and the four Champions. Calamity Mode is the hardest way to play, with tougher and more numerous enemies and much weaker healing items. The game also supports amiibo.

The upgrade discount and save transfer

If you own Age of Calamity on Switch, you can buy the digital Definitive Edition at a discount on the Nintendo eShop. With a digital copy, the discount turns on automatically for your Nintendo Account. With a game card, you insert it into a Switch 2, update the game to Ver. 1.4.0 or later, finish the opening tutorial of about 10 minutes and select Proceed to Nintendo eShop from the main menu. Nintendo hasn’t listed the discounted price yet.

You can also transfer your save from the Switch game. Otherwise the two are separate products, and the Definitive Edition doesn’t run on the original Switch.

Co-op and GameShare

Two players can fight together. You can play split-screen on one system, and with GameShare, a friend can join on a second Switch 2 over local wireless or online through GameChat, without owning the game. The shared copy works only during that session, and online GameShare needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
