Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch 2 release date: Rockstar hasn't announced a Nintendo version, eight years after launch

The first Red Dead Redemption made it to Switch 2 in December 2025. The far bigger sequel still hasn’t been announced for any Nintendo console. Here’s what Rockstar has and hasn’t said.

When does Red Dead Redemption 2 come out on Switch 2?

It doesn’t have a date, because Rockstar Games hasn’t announced a Switch 2 version. Red Dead Redemption 2 came out on PS4 and Xbox One on Oct. 26, 2018, and reached Steam on Dec. 5, 2019. In the eight years since launch, it has never been released on a Nintendo console.

Take-Two’s earnings release of Aug. 7, 2026, lists the publisher’s announced upcoming games, including NBA 2K27 on Switch 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI, and Red Dead Redemption 2 for Switch 2 isn’t on it. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed any plans to bring the game to Nintendo hardware.

What did Rockstar bring to Switch 2 instead?

The first game. Red Dead Redemption: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition came out on Dec. 2, 2025, with Undead Nightmare included, and Nintendo says it features enhanced graphics, HDR and mouse controls. Owners of the original Switch version, released on Aug. 17, 2023, can upgrade for free and keep their saves.

That release is about 11.8 GB, according to Nintendo’s store data. Red Dead Redemption 2 is much bigger: its Steam page asks for 150 GB of free space, while Nintendo Switch 2 has 256 GB of internal storage, according to Nintendo.

Where can you play Red Dead Redemption 2 now?

On PS4, Xbox One and PC, and on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S through backward compatibility. Rockstar hasn’t released a native version for either current console. On Steam, the game is $14.99, 75% off its $59.99 price, when we checked on Oct. 17, 2026. It’s rated M for Mature by the ESRB.

The game keeps selling. Take-Two says it has shipped more than 87 million copies, according to its investor presentation of August 2026, and the whole series is at nearly 116 million.

What is Rockstar working on next?

Grand Theft Auto VI, due Nov. 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Rockstar hasn’t announced a Switch 2 version of it, and it hasn’t announced a new Red Dead game either.
