Red Dead Redemption on Switch 2: out since Dec. 2, 2025, with a free upgrade for Switch owners and a $24.99 sale until Nov. 6

John Marston’s ride got a second Nintendo release, and Switch owners don’t pay anything extra for it. Here’s what the Switch 2 Edition costs, adds and includes.

When did Red Dead Redemption come out on Switch 2?

On Dec. 2, 2025, the same day Rockstar Games released it on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, iOS and Android, including through Netflix. The original Switch version had come out on Aug. 17, 2023.

The Switch 2 Edition includes the complete single-player campaigns of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare, the zombie story set in the same world, plus bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition. It has no multiplayer. The game is rated M for Mature by the ESRB.

How does the upgrade from Switch work?

It’s free. Nintendo’s US eShop lists the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack at $0, and the store says the original Switch version is required to play it. Nintendo says Switch owners can upgrade for free and carry their save data over to pick up where they left off, and Rockstar’s support site has its own guide to upgrading from Switch to Switch 2.

If you don’t own the Switch version, you buy the Switch 2 Edition outright. It isn’t a cheaper route either way: the two versions cost the same in the US eShop.

What’s better on Switch 2?

Nintendo says the Switch 2 Edition features enhanced graphics, HDR and mouse controls. According to Nintendo’s store, HDR output works on compatible TVs, the game supports surround sound, and cloud saves need a Nintendo Switch Online membership. It plays in TV, tabletop and handheld modes.

The download barely grows. Nintendo’s store data puts the Switch 2 Edition at about 11.8 GB and the original Switch version at about 11.6 GB. Nintendo’s store pages don’t list a frame rate or resolution for either version.

How much is it, and is there a physical copy?

The Switch 2 Edition is $49.99 in Nintendo’s US eShop, and it’s on sale for $24.99 until Nov. 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. PT. The original Switch version has the same regular price and the same $24.99 sale price.

Nintendo’s US store sells the Switch 2 Edition only as a download. The physical game in its store is the original Switch version, listed as permanently sold out. The game supports 12 languages, including English, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean and Polish.

Is Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to Switch 2?

Rockstar hasn’t announced it; see our Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch 2 release date page. Red Dead Redemption 2 has shipped more than 87 million copies since Oct. 26, 2018, according to Take-Two’s investor presentation of August 2026, but it hasn’t been released on any Nintendo console. Rockstar hasn’t announced a third game either.
