Borderlands 4 Switch 2 release date: delayed since September 2025, with no new date even after cross-saves arrived
There's no Borderlands 4 release date for Switch 2. 2K and Gearbox planned to launch it on Oct. 3, 2025, for $69.99, then announced on Sept. 23, 2025, that the Switch 2 version needed more development and polish time and canceled all digital pre-orders. They said they hoped to line it up with cross-saves, which reached the other versions on June 25, 2026, but they still haven't given a new date, and Take-Two's August 2026 lineup doesn't list it.

Borderlands 4 was days away from Switch 2 when 2K hit pause, and more than a year later it’s still waiting. Here’s everything 2K and Gearbox have said.
When does Borderlands 4 come out on Switch 2?
There’s no date. 2K opened Switch 2 pre-orders at $69.99 for an Oct. 3, 2025, launch, then announced on Sept. 23, 2025, that the Switch 2 version was being delayed because the game needed additional development and polish time. 2K said it would share the new release timing once it had fully adjusted its plans, and it hasn’t posted that update.
Under Nintendo’s policy, all digital pre-orders were canceled, automatically from Sept. 26, 2025, for anyone who didn’t cancel first, and physical pre-orders went back to retailers. When we checked on Oct. 17, 2026, the game’s old Switch 2 page in Nintendo’s US store redirected to Nintendo’s homepage.
Is it cancelled?
2K hasn’t announced a cancellation. But nothing points to a release soon either. Take-Two’s earnings release of Aug. 7, 2026, lists the publisher’s announced upcoming games, including NBA 2K27 on Switch 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI, and Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 isn’t on it.
Borderlands 4 came out on PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC in September 2025, and Gearbox has kept those versions busy. Story Pack 1, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, arrived on March 26, 2026, and Story Pack 2 with the Loveless the Hacker Vault Hunter followed on Sept. 10, 2026, alongside Version 1.10. None of those announcements mention Switch 2.
What about cross-saves?
They’re here, just not on Switch 2. When 2K delayed the Switch 2 version, it said it hoped to better align the release with the addition of cross saves. Cross-Platform Saves went live with Version 1.8 on June 25, 2026, letting you upload a save through a free SHiFT account and keep playing on another platform where you own the game.
So the feature 2K wanted the Switch 2 version to launch with has existed for almost four months, and the Switch 2 version still has no date.
What was the Switch 2 version supposed to include?
According to 2K’s announcement, online co-op with cross-play against other platforms, local play between multiple Switch 2 consoles, and GameChat with screen sharing and camera support. It also promised Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and support for virtual game cards, so you could load the game on other systems linked to your Nintendo Account or lend it to family group members.
