Gen.G: two LCK titles in 2026
Gen.G opened the season with a title. It beat Dplus KIA 3-1 and BNK FEARX 3-1 in the LCK playoffs and swept BNK FEARX 3-0 in the final on March 1. At First Stand, Gen.G swept JDG and LYON 3-0 each before G2 Esports beat it 3-0 in the semifinals on March 21. In June, Gen.G swept kt Rolster 3-0, but T1 won a 3-2 thriller on June 14 and took the last LCK spot at MSI.
The fall brought the second title. Gen.G swept kt Rolster 3-0 on Sept. 1, beat Hanwha Life Esports 3-1 on Sept. 5 and beat Hanwha Life again 3-1 in the final on Sept. 13, the same Hanwha Life that won MSI in July. The lineup is Kiin in the top lane, Canyon in the jungle, Chovy in the mid lane, Ruler as the bot laner and Duro as the support. Canyon won Worlds in 2020 with DAMWON Gaming, and Ruler won it in 2017 with Samsung Galaxy.
Invictus Gaming: the 2018 champions' return
Invictus Gaming took the hard road all season. In the first LPL split, IG lost 3-1 to Shenzhen Ninjas in Pyjamas in the Play-In knockouts, swept Oh My God 3-0 on Feb. 11, lost 3-0 to Weibo Gaming on Feb. 25, beat Ninjas in Pyjamas 3-1 and fell 3-1 to Anyone’s Legend on March 3. In May, ThunderTalk Gaming swept IG 3-0 in the Play-Ins.
The fall run was IG’s best. It swept ThunderTalk Gaming 3-0 on Aug. 28, then beat Top Esports 3-2, Xi’an Team WE 3-1 and LGD Gaming 3-0 before Anyone’s Legend won 3-2 on Sept. 12. In the Regional Qualifier, Top Esports beat IG 3-1 on Sept. 17, and IG answered with a 3-1 win over JDG on Sept. 19 for the LPL’s fourth spot. The lineup that day was TheShy in the top lane, Wei in the jungle, Rookie in the mid lane, JiaQi as the bot laner and Meiko as the support. TheShy and Rookie won Worlds with IG in 2018, and Meiko won it with EDward Gaming in 2021.
Who wins GEN vs IG? Our pick
Our pick is Gen.G. Two LCK titles, two September wins over the reigning MSI champion and a lineup with Chovy in the middle make Gen.G the stronger team on results, and the draw tiers agree: Gen.G was in Tier 1, IG in Tier 4.
IG’s case is experience and nerve. TheShy, Rookie and Meiko have all lifted the Summoner’s Cup, IG went five games with Anyone’s Legend in September, and a best-of-one rewards a team that lands its draft. Both teams play on Patch 26.20, the Worlds patch, so the patch 26.21 changes stay off the stage. Riot’s draw rules kept Gen.G away from Dplus KIA, a fellow LCK team, as our Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage page explains.
How to watch GEN vs IG

The winner goes 1-0 and plays another 1-0 team in Round 2 on Saturday, Oct. 24, also a best-of-one, while the loser drops into the 0-1 pool. Three match wins sends a team to the quarterfinals, and three losses sends it home. Later the same day, T1 plays LOS at 7 p.m. ET. For every match and result, see our Worlds 2026 schedule.
