Virtua Fighter Crossroads release date: 2027, and SEGA hasn't named the platforms yet

The next mainline Virtua Fighter is set for 2027, but SEGA is still keeping most of the details back. Here’s what’s official so far.

When does Virtua Fighter Crossroads come out?

In 2027, with no exact day. SEGA gave the game its name on June 8, 2026, after showing it at Summer Game Fest, and said then that it’s slated for 2027. SEGA SAMMY’s earnings presentation of Aug. 7, 2026, still lists 2027, but not among the titles it plans for its fiscal year ending in March 2027, so the release falls after that.

There’s no store page, price or pre-order yet. Until it arrives, SEGA’s newest Virtua Fighter is Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, an enhanced version with a new single-player mode, which came out on Oct. 30, 2025, and costs $19.99 on Steam.

What platforms is Virtua Fighter Crossroads on?

SEGA hasn’t said. Its product information lists the platform as TBA, and SEGA SAMMY shows both the platforms and the regions as TBD. For comparison, World Stage launched on PS5, Xbox Series X and S and Steam, with a Switch 2 version listed for later, but SEGA hasn’t tied Crossroads to any of them.

What is Virtua Fighter Crossroads about?

It’s set in Vilasapara, a fictional fighting town in Southeast Asia built by RGG Studio, the team behind Yakuza and Like a Dragon, with a walled city center, entertainment and resort districts, and side stories and quests to find. Firearms are banned there, and the city’s president wants to turn an underground tournament, the Vila Fight Fest, into a national sport, just as a masked attacker called the Bakunawa Killer starts going after martial artists.

The story follows four new protagonists, and SEGA has shown one of them, Cielo, in a story trailer. A second trailer at Evo 2026 in Las Vegas, announced on June 29, revealed the Bakunawa Killer and showed series veteran Pai and Cielo trying to find out who’s behind the mask.

Story mode and one-on-one fights

SEGA calls Crossroads a fighting adventure. In Story Mode, fights such as brawls against several opponents and boss battles happen as part of the plot, and your wins and losses shape where the story goes. Battle Mode keeps the classic one-on-one matches, online and offline, with the series' fluid combat made more realistic.

Riichiro Yamada is the producer and creative director, and the writing team includes David Hayter, Brad Kane and writers from the Like a Dragon and Persona series.
