When does Stranger Than Heaven come out?
On Jan. 15, 2027, on PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC, through Steam and Xbox on PC. It also launches on Xbox Cloud and is included with Xbox Game Pass on day one, and as an Xbox Play Anywhere game, one purchase works on both Xbox and PC. SEGA hasn’t announced a Switch 2 version.
The date hasn’t moved. SEGA showed the game for winter in May 2026 and set Jan. 15 on June 5, when pre-orders opened, and SEGA SAMMY kept it in its Aug. 7 earnings presentation. Steam’s US page lists Jan. 14, a day earlier than the date SEGA, PlayStation and Xbox give.
How much is Stranger Than Heaven?
The standard edition costs $69.99 and the Deluxe Edition $89.99 on Steam and the PlayStation Store, before discounts. The Deluxe Edition adds an original outfit for Makoto Daito, four new weapons, four new skilled performers, three stage production items, a promotional poster, a record player that plays music from each era at your home base and an electronic camera. You unlock these items as you progress through the main story.
Pre-ordering any edition gets you the Dosu: Kagekiri weapon. If you have Game Pass, you can play it at no extra cost from launch day.
What is Stranger Than Heaven about?
It’s a 50-year saga that starts in San Francisco in 1915. Makoto Daito, born to an American father and a Japanese mother, loses both parents and stows away on a ship to Japan, where Makoto’s mother was born. Snoop Dogg plays Orpheus, the smuggler who finds the young stowaway on board.
The story moves through five cities modeled on real places in their eras: Kokura in 1915, Kure in 1929, Minami in Osaka in 1943, Atami in 1951 and Shinjuku in Tokyo in 1965. In the US, the ESRB rates it M for intense violence, blood and gore, strong language and drug use.
How combat and Showbiz work
In fights, you control Makoto’s left and right sides separately, and you’ll use knives, hammers, katanas and other weapons that you can level up. Between fights, Makoto becomes a showman. You collect sounds around town, from trains and brooms to the grunts of enemies, combine them into new songs, then pick the setlist, singer and band and promote each show as you tour the country.
Interest is high for a new series. Stranger Than Heaven passed 1 million wishlists across all platforms by Sept. 2, 2026, more than any RGG Studio game before its launch.
