Streets of Rage 5 release date: SEGA's new Streets of Rage still has no title, date or platforms, nearly three years after its reveal
There's no Streets of Rage 5 release date. SEGA revealed a new Streets of Rage game at The Game Awards on Dec. 7, 2023, as one of five classic series it's reimagining, and SEGA SAMMY's earnings presentation of Aug. 7, 2026, still lists its title, release date, regions and platforms as TBD. SEGA hasn't called it Streets of Rage 5, and it isn't on the company's release schedule for the fiscal year that ends in March 2027.
The next Streets of Rage is real, but SEGA still hasn’t given it a name, a date or a console. Here’s everything official.
When does Streets of Rage 5 come out?
SEGA hasn’t said. It revealed a new Streets of Rage game at The Game Awards on Dec. 7, 2023, alongside new Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe and Shinobi projects, and said titles, release dates and platforms would come later. In SEGA SAMMY’s earnings presentation of Aug. 7, 2026, the game is listed as Streets of Rage (Title TBD), with its launch date, regions, platforms and even its delivery format all marked TBD.
It isn’t on SEGA’s release schedule for the fiscal year that ends in March 2027, whose new full games end with Stranger Than Heaven on Jan. 15, 2027, and Persona 4 Revival on Feb. 18, 2027. SEGA places it under upcoming plans for the years after that, next to Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio and Alien: Isolation 2, none of which has a date.
Is it called Streets of Rage 5, and is it coming to PS5?
Neither is confirmed. SEGA hasn’t given the game a title, so Streets of Rage 5 is the name fans use, not an official one. SEGA also hasn’t announced platforms, which means a PS5, Xbox Series X and S, Switch 2 or PC version is still unconfirmed.
SEGA hasn’t named a developer either. Streets of Rage 4 was made by Dotemu, Lizardcube and Guard Crush, and Lizardcube went on to develop Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, which SEGA published in August 2025 as the first of the five revived series to come out. SEGA hasn’t said who is working on the new Streets of Rage.
What did Streets of Rage 4 add after launch?
Streets of Rage 4 came out on April 30, 2020, for $24.99 on Steam, with 17 playable characters, 12 stages, two-player online co-op and four-player local co-op, plus the option to switch to the original soundtracks of Streets of Rage 1 and 2. It was nominated for Best Action Game at The Game Awards that year and reached Mac and Linux on Nov. 12, 2020.
The Mr. X Nightmare DLC followed on July 15, 2021, for $7.99, adding Estel Aguirre, Max Thunder and Shiva as playable fighters and a Survival mode, while a free update brought the Mania+ difficulty and a training mode. The most recent major update, on March 10, 2023, added co-op attacks, more than 300 improvements and a Custom Survival mode.
What else has SEGA planned for Streets of Rage?
The same presentation lists a second Streets of Rage project in SEGA’s animation business, in a section marked as licensing out, the same table that holds the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 film. It has no title or date, and Golden Axe, Shinobi, Eternal Champions, The House of the Dead and OutRun appear there the same way.
