Tekken 9 release date: not announced, and Tekken 8 has content scheduled into 2027
Tekken 9 doesn't have a release date, because Bandai Namco hasn't announced it. Tekken 8, out since January 2024, is in its third season of new fighters. Roger Jr. arrives for everyone on Nov. 17, 2026, and Bandai Namco plans a gameplay trailer for the last Season 3 fighter, Yujiro Hanma, on Jan. 17, 2027, at the Tekken World Tour Finals.
Bandai Namco hasn’t announced Tekken 9, and its plans for Tekken 8 already reach into 2027. Here’s what’s official about the next Tekken and what’s coming to the current one.
When does Tekken 9 come out?
There’s no release date, because Bandai Namco hasn’t announced Tekken 9. It hasn’t revealed a sequel, a platform or a trailer, and dates and videos shared online under the Tekken 9 name aren’t official.
The latest game, Tekken 8, came out in January 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. It passed 1 million copies on its first day and 2 million in its first month, Bandai Namco said on Feb. 26, 2024. The gap before it was long: Tekken 7 reached consoles and PC in June 2017, so by simple arithmetic Tekken 8 arrived about six and a half years later.
Tekken 8 Season 3
Instead of a sequel, Bandai Namco keeps adding fighters to Tekken 8. The Season 3 Pass has four. Kunimitsu came first, with early access for pass holders in late May and a release for everyone on June 2, 2026. Bob followed on Aug. 19, 2026, for pass holders in North America and on Aug. 24, 2026, for everyone.
Next is Roger Jr., shown at Evo France in October 2026. It arrives on Nov. 12, 2026, for Season 3 Pass holders in North America and on Nov. 17, 2026, for everyone. The fourth and final Season 3 fighter is Yujiro Hanma, and Bandai Namco will show its gameplay trailer on Jan. 17, 2027.
Tekken in 2027
That trailer is part of the Tekken World Tour Finals, set for Jan. 14 to 17, 2027, at Evo Singapore 2027. So the next big Tekken date on Bandai Namco’s calendar is a Tekken 8 event, not a new game.
How big Tekken is
The series has sold more than 61 million copies over more than 30 years, Bandai Namco said on June 29, 2026, when it announced a spinoff cartoon called Tekken! Cartoon for the official Tekken social channels. Tekken 7 alone had sold more than 11.8 million by the end of 2023. On Steam, Tekken 8 and Tekken 7 are each listed at $39.99 before discounts.
