Kingdom Hearts 4 release date: late 2027 on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC

Kingdom Hearts IV is coming in late 2027. Square Enix and Disney & Pixar Games announced the window at D23 on Aug. 15, 2026, with a new trailer. The game launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and there’s no exact date or price yet.

When does Kingdom Hearts 4 come out?

Square Enix says late 2027, and its official product listing shows the same window. It hasn’t named a month or a day. That puts the launch after the series' 25th anniversary: the first Kingdom Hearts came out in March 2002 on PlayStation 2.

Kingdom Hearts IV was revealed with a trailer at the Kingdom Hearts 20th anniversary event in Tokyo on April 10, 2022, together with the mobile game Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. In 2022, Square Enix gave no date or platforms. A new teaser on June 9, 2026, named the four platforms, and the D23 announcement in August added the release window.

Kingdom Hearts IV is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. You can wishlist it now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Switch 2, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Square Enix hasn’t announced versions for PS4, Xbox One or the original Switch.

On PC, the Steam page lists full controller support, including DualSense, and Steam Achievements. System requirements are still marked as to be confirmed.

What Kingdom Hearts 4 is about

Sora wakes up in Quadratum, an unfamiliar modern city where the Heartless are causing havoc, and looks for a way back to his own world. Meanwhile, Donald Duck and Goofy head to the Underworld for clues to find him. The D23 trailer revealed the first Disney world, based on Pixar’s Coco, and showed sections where you play as Donald and Goofy, plus an exploration segment with King Mickey as he searches for Sora.

Square Enix describes a fast battle system that mixes attacks and magic, with a new feature for building combos. Sora can switch between Keyblades, and each one has its own attacks.

At the same D23 event, an original Kingdom Hearts anime series (working title) was announced for Disney Channel and Disney+. It’s in development with Tetsuya Nomura and the creative team at Square Enix. Square Enix says the series has shipped more than 39 million units worldwide.
