Far Cry 7 release date: Ubisoft plans new Far Cry releases between April 2027 and March 2029
Far Cry 7 doesn't have a release date, and Ubisoft hasn't announced it by name. Ubisoft said on May 20, 2026, that it expects a much bigger lineup in its fiscal years from April 2027 to March 2029, with releases across major brands including Far Cry. The last main game, Far Cry 6, came out on Oct. 7, 2021.
Far Cry 6 turned 5 on Oct. 7, 2026, and Ubisoft hasn’t named the next one. Here’s the timing Ubisoft has actually given.
When does Far Cry 7 come out?
There’s no release date, and Ubisoft hasn’t announced a game called Far Cry 7. What it has given is a window. In its full-year earnings release on May 20, 2026, Ubisoft said it expects a significantly stronger content pipeline in its fiscal years 2027-28 and 2028-29, with releases across its major brands, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Ghost Recon. The plan doesn’t name Watch Dogs, whose last game came out in 2020.
Ubisoft’s fiscal years run from April to March, so that window covers April 2027 to March 2029. Ubisoft hasn’t said whether the Far Cry release in that window is a numbered sequel, a spinoff or something else, and dates shared online aren’t official. For other big games due around then, see our list of upcoming games in 2027.
Why the next Far Cry is taking longer
The gap is already the longest in the series. Far Cry 5 came out in March 2018 and Far Cry 6 on Oct. 7, 2021, about three and a half years apart. By simple arithmetic, it has been five years since Far Cry 6 as of October 2026, and the earliest point in Ubisoft’s window, April 2027, would make it five and a half.
Ubisoft has been reorganizing in that time. The current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2027, has a lighter slate, led by Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which came out on July 9, 2026, and Ubisoft’s report of July 23, 2026, didn’t add a Far Cry game to it.
Who makes Far Cry now
Far Cry now sits inside Vantage Studios, a Ubisoft subsidiary that has been fully operational since Oct. 1, 2025, and also runs Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six. Tencent completed a €1.16 billion investment in it on Nov. 21, 2025, for a 26.32% economic interest, while Ubisoft keeps control. Vantage is also behind the next Assassin’s Creed games, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe.
Far Cry while you wait
Far Cry 6 is on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC, and it’s $59.99 on Steam. Ubisoft is bringing Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition to Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2027.
Far Cry is also headed to TV. FX has ordered an anthology series from Noah Hawley and Rob Mac, with a new setting and cast each season, and it will stream on Hulu in the US and Disney+ elsewhere. The cast includes Rob Mac, Lizzy Caplan and Steve Buscemi, and FX hasn’t announced a premiere date.
