Assassin's Creed Destiny: footage of a scrapped Assassin's Creed set in ancient China surfaces

Screenshots and gameplay footage of an Assassin's Creed project called Destiny spread online this week. The material shows a game set in ancient China, like the mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade, with a female assassin, stealth kills, a leap of faith and an early boss fight. It appears to come from the portfolios of developers who worked on it, and the project seems to have been cancelled early. Ubisoft and Tencent haven't confirmed that it existed.

An Assassin’s Creed game nobody announced is making the rounds. Screenshots and gameplay footage of a project called Assassin’s Creed Destiny, set in ancient China, spread online this week. The project appears to have been cancelled early, and Ubisoft and Tencent haven’t confirmed that it existed.

The material looks like an early prototype. It appears to come from the online portfolios of developers who worked on the project, not from Ubisoft or Tencent.

In one mission, a female assassin has to reach a mysterious artifact inside a palace besieged by the army of Xiang Yu, the warlord who fought for control of China after the fall of the Qin dynasty. The clips show stealth kills, the series' trademark leap of faith, early work on a boss fight against Xiang Yu and a spinning, umbrella-like weapon tested in a placeholder level. A male character also appears running across rooftops, which could point to a choice of hero or simply a stand-in.

The interface is rough but already styled, with ink-brush ability icons, a health bar and a yin-yang emblem. Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group is said to have led the project. Tencent hasn’t confirmed that.

No. As of Oct. 16, 2026, Ubisoft hasn’t announced a game called Assassin’s Creed Destiny, and neither Ubisoft nor Tencent has commented on the footage. Neither company has said when work on the project started, who made it or why it stopped.

Cancelled prototypes are common in big franchises, and work-in-progress footage often surfaces years later in developer portfolios. Until Ubisoft or Tencent says something, treat Destiny as a scrapped experiment, not an upcoming game.

How it compares with Assassin’s Creed Jade. Destiny’s setting sounds a lot like Assassin’s Creed Jade, the mobile game Ubisoft announced in September 2022 and is making with Tencent. On its official site, Jade is set in the third century BC, during the time of one of the first unified empires in China, and you follow a hero named Xia. The site lists iOS and Android versions.

Jade hasn’t been cancelled, but it still has no release date. Destiny, by the look of the footage, would have been a different game set in the same turbulent era.

If the name rings a bell, it’s probably because of Bungie. Ubisoft and Bungie ran an Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Destiny 2 crossover, with cosmetics that arrived on Dec. 6, 2022. That event has nothing to do with the leaked project.

The newest game in the series is Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a remake of Black Flag starring Edward Kenway, released on July 9, 2026. It costs $59.99 on Steam. The last new main game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan, came out in March 2025.

Further ahead, Ubisoft has announced Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, revealed in September 2022, and Jade. Neither has a release date. For other games coming soon, see our list of new games in November 2026.

This page is updated as soon as Ubisoft or Tencent comments on Assassin’s Creed Destiny.
