BioShock 4 release date: 2K still hasn't named a date, a title or platforms

There’s still no BioShock 4 release date. 2K’s next BioShock has been in the works since 2019, went through a restart of its leadership in 2025 and hasn’t been shown once. Here’s what’s official.

When is BioShock 4 coming out?

2K hasn’t said. There’s no release date, no window and no official title. “BioShock 4” is what players call it, while 2K only refers to the next game in the BioShock series.

The project became public on Dec. 9, 2019, when 2K announced a new studio, Cloud Chamber, with teams in Novato, California, and Montreal. In the same announcement, 2K said the studio had started on the next BioShock and that it would be in development for the next several years. That’s now close to seven.

Take-Two, 2K’s parent company, still lists BioShock among its multimillion-selling series in its latest quarterly report, filed with the SEC on Aug. 7, 2026, but it doesn’t mention a release for the new game.

What’s happened at Cloud Chamber

The studio’s own website says its whole team is focused on BioShock, with remote developers across North America, and it lists the next game as in development.

The biggest change came in August 2025. 2K put Rod Fergusson in charge of Cloud Chamber and the BioShock series. Fergusson had helped finish BioShock Infinite and later ran Diablo IV at Blizzard. At the same time, 2K reduced the team so it could rework parts of the game it called core to BioShock, and the studio’s previous head left.

Take-Two’s chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, addressed the wait publicly in May 2026. Zelnick called it a deep disappointment, said the company had spent time and money on creative directions that didn’t work out and said things look better under the new leadership. Neither Take-Two nor 2K gave a new timeline.

The last BioShock games, and where to play them

The most recent new game is BioShock Infinite, released in March 2013, which moved the series from the underwater city of Rapture to Columbia, a city in the sky. The first two games came back in BioShock: The Collection in September 2016, with remastered versions of BioShock and BioShock 2.

On Steam, BioShock Infinite costs $29.99, and BioShock Remastered and BioShock 2 Remastered cost $19.99 each. The series is also on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. 2K hasn’t said which platforms the next game is coming to.

BioShock is getting a movie, too. Netflix announced a film adaptation with 2K in 2022, and Fergusson’s role covers projects like that beyond the games.

Leaks, rumors and the BioShock creator’s other game

Over the years, there have been plenty of claims about the next BioShock’s setting, story and release timing. 2K hasn’t confirmed any of them, and since the 2025 rework, older details may no longer apply.

It’s also easy to mix up two projects. Judas, from Ghost Story Games, is the new game from Ken Levine, who led the original BioShock and BioShock Infinite. It’s a separate game, and it doesn’t have a release date either, as our Judas release date page explains.

There’s no event on the calendar where 2K has promised BioShock news. The biggest showcase left this year is The Game Awards on Dec. 10, covered on our Game Awards 2026 page.
