Avowed DLC: why there's no expansion, what the free anniversary update added and where Obsidian's roadmap ended

Avowed has no story DLC, and Obsidian closed its post-launch roadmap with a free anniversary update on Feb. 17, 2026. Here’s what that update added, what the paid upgrade includes and where an expansion stands.

Is there an Avowed DLC?

Obsidian Entertainment hasn’t released or announced a story DLC for Avowed since the game launched on Feb. 18, 2025, on Xbox Series X and S and PC. Premium Edition owners started five days earlier, on Feb. 13, through advanced access.

What Avowed has instead is free content and one paid add-on. The Premium Upgrade at $9.99 adds cosmetics, an artbook and a soundtrack, and the anniversary update on Feb. 17, 2026, added new playable species, New Game+ and more for every player at no cost.

What the anniversary update added

The anniversary update, Patch 2.0, is the biggest content drop Avowed has had. Three new playable species, Dwarves, Orlans and Aumaua, joined Humans and Elves, each with stat bonuses: Aumaua get +2 Might, Dwarves +1 Might and +1 Constitution, and Orlans +1 Perception and +1 Resolve. Backgrounds got bonuses too, from +2 Intellect for the Arcane Scholar to +2 Constitution for the War Hero, and a mirror in the Party Camp lets you change species and appearance at any time.

New Game+ opens after you finish the main story. You keep your unlocked abilities except godlike ones, your spent attribute points, enchantments and your unique weapons and armor, which reset to level 1. Enemies get higher stats and a chance of modifiers, and the attribute cap rises from 15 to 30. If you finished the game before the update, you need a save from the point of no return or later to start it.

The update also added custom difficulty settings for player, enemy and companion stats, merchant prices and fall damage, a new quarterstaff weapon with stunning finishers and Photo Mode.

How Avowed’s roadmap played out

Obsidian published its roadmap with Patch 1.4 on May 15, 2025. That update added an Arachnophobia Mode, map fog clearing and the option to wait at the Party Camp. Patch 1.5 on July 15, 2025, made the game Steam Deck Verified.

The next stop was meant to be a fall update with New Game+, Photo Mode and a new weapon type. On Dec. 2, 2025, Obsidian said Avowed wouldn’t get a fall update and moved everything into an update around the game’s anniversary, with extra features to make it the biggest one yet. When it arrived on Feb. 17, 2026, Obsidian said the team was ending its post-launch roadmap with it.

Patch 2.1 on March 25, 2026, followed with a settings toggle that turns off the respawning enemy encounters the anniversary update added, three in each region, along with crash and Photo Mode fixes. It’s the latest Avowed patch.

The Premium Upgrade and prices

The Premium Upgrade costs $9.99 and adds a digital artbook and soundtrack, two player armors and eight companion skins. The standard edition costs $49.99 and the Premium Edition $59.99. These were the Steam prices on Oct. 19, 2026, and Obsidian set them around the game’s first anniversary in January 2026.

Avowed has been on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass since launch, so members got the anniversary update at no extra cost.

Avowed on PS5

Obsidian announced the PS5 version on Jan. 8, 2026, and it launched on Feb. 17, 2026, alongside the anniversary update, so PS5 players started with the new species, New Game+ and Photo Mode from day one. It costs $49.99 for the standard edition and $59.99 for the Premium Edition.

Will Avowed ever get DLC?

Obsidian hasn’t announced any Avowed DLC, and with the roadmap closed, its announcements since have been patches.
