The Outer Worlds 2 DLC release date: two story expansions in the Premium Edition, the $30 upgrade and what Obsidian has said

The Outer Worlds 2 has two story expansions coming, and Obsidian hasn’t dated either one yet. Here’s what the DLC Pass includes, what it costs and what Obsidian has shipped since launch.

When is The Outer Worlds 2 DLC coming out?

Obsidian hasn’t announced a release date for The Outer Worlds 2 DLC. The game’s Premium Edition includes a DLC Pass for two future story expansions, and the store listing adds that the expansions arrive as they’re released. Neither expansion has a name or a date yet.

The pass is still on sale. On Oct. 19, 2026, a year after the game’s Oct. 29, 2025, launch, the Premium Edition on Steam still lists both future story expansions. In December 2025, Obsidian described its plans as “a couple of DLCs coming out”, along with continual improvements to the game over the following year.

What the DLC Pass includes

The DLC Pass covers two story expansions, the same structure the first game used. It isn’t sold on its own. You get it with the Premium Edition at $99.99, which also includes the base game, the Moon Man’s Corporate Appreciation Premium Prize Pack of cosmetics and the digital artbook and original soundtrack.

If you already own the Standard Edition at $69.99, the Premium Upgrade at $30.00 adds the same DLC Pass, cosmetics, artbook and soundtrack. Those were the Steam prices on Oct. 19, 2026. Early buyers of the Premium Edition also got five days of early access from Oct. 24, 2025, and pre-orders added Commander Zane’s Anti-Monopolistic Battle Pack.

How much will the expansions cost?

Obsidian hasn’t priced the expansions individually. Expected price: about $19.99 for each story expansion, our estimate, which puts the pair above the $30.00 upgrade and makes the upgrade the cheaper route for anyone who wants both.

The Outer Worlds 2 is on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, which cover the base game. The DLC Pass comes through the Premium Upgrade, so Game Pass members buy the upgrade to get both expansions, the same way Ninja Gaiden 4’s DLC works.

What Obsidian has added since launch

So far, Obsidian’s post-launch work has been free, the same route it took with Avowed, which got no paid expansion, as our Avowed DLC page explains. Patch 1.0.5.0 on Nov. 11, 2025, and Patch 1.0.6.0 on Dec. 10 fixed bugs, and 1.0.6.0 also slowed leveling between levels 21 and 25 and added an FSR toggle for AMD graphics cards. Patch 1.1.0.0 on March 3, 2026, added a Wait option to advance the time of day by up to 24 hours, new stealth kill animations, gamepad rebinding on console and a walk toggle.

Patch 1.2.0.0 on June 24, 2026, was the biggest update. It added a new type of Rift filled with powerful creatures on Paradise Island, Golden Ridge, Cloister and Praetor, a fifth Custom difficulty with options such as Companion Permadeath and a zero-bits run, Photo Mode, a mirror in the Captain’s Quarters for changing your Commander’s appearance, and the M.O.P. system for wearing the look of any armor you own. Hotfix 1.2.0.1 followed on July 15.

How the first game’s expansions arrived

The Outer Worlds launched on Oct. 25, 2019. Its first story expansion, Peril on Gorgon, was announced in July 2020 and launched on Sept. 9, 2020. The second, Murder on Eridanos, arrived on March 17, 2021. Each expansion raised the level cap by three and added new weapons, armor, perks and a flaw.

The sequel follows the same two-expansion plan, through a pass sold from launch day.

Where you can play The Outer Worlds 2

The game is out on Xbox Series X and S, PS5 and PC through the Xbox app, Battle.net and Steam, and it’s an Xbox Play Anywhere title.
