The escape room sequel trades a map of rooms for a whole campus to explore, and it arrives in early November on three platforms. Here’s when Escape Academy 2 comes out, what it costs and how co-op works.

When does Escape Academy 2 come out?

Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC. Coin Crew Games announced the date on Steam and on the PlayStation Blog on Oct. 13, and the Xbox store lists the Deluxe Edition for 1 p.m. ET, 10 a.m. PT, on launch day. Steam carries the Windows version and lists Linux support too.

The date comes after one delay. In August, the studio moved the launch to November to give the game a final round of polish and reach as many players as possible. The ESRB rates the game E for Everyone, and PEGI rates it 7.

Price, editions and Game Pass

The Xbox store sells the Standard Edition for $19.99 and the Deluxe Edition for $29.99, with pre-orders open since Oct. 14. The Deluxe Edition adds the Season Pass: two upcoming major expansions, each with a new story, new escape rooms and extra credit side quests, all playable solo or in co-op, plus the Mask-uerade pack of 10 animal-themed masks for the new character customization system. Steam and the PlayStation Store haven’t posted prices. Expected price: $19.99 and $29.99 on PS5 and Steam too, our estimate, the same as on Xbox and the price of the first game on Steam.

Xbox lists Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School in its Coming to Game Pass lineup for both console and PC. Our Game Pass November 2026 page tracks every game joining the service that month.

An open-world campus

The first Escape Academy moved between rooms on a 2D map. The sequel turns the Academy into an open-world campus, which Coin Crew Games calls the first open world escape room game. The campus itself works as one big puzzle room, with hidden tunnels, secret passages, traps, side quests and escapes outside the classrooms, and puzzles are no longer limited to rooms.

The campus splits into sections. The Headmaster’s Tower leans hardest into the Academy’s history and leads back to the Headmaster’s Office, the setting of the very first escape in the original game. The Humanities Campus returns rebuilt and expanded, with classical architecture, faculty offices, classrooms and a library. It isn’t open from the start, but a keyhole-shaped fountain lets you spot it from across campus long before you can reach it. The industrial Science Campus and the colorful Arts Campus round out the map, and keyhole details hide all over the grounds for players who like to look closely.

Co-op, the story and No-Timer Mode

Co-op works from the first minute. The full campus, the story and every puzzle are playable in online co-op or split-screen couch co-op, and the Xbox store lists cross-platform co-op. A new optional No-Timer Mode removes the clock from escapes, so players of any skill level can solve at their own pace.

The story follows a dark mystery about the school’s founding that leads to new revelations about the Academy itself, with new teachers, returning faces from the first game, character-driven storylines and side quests. You also get quality time with the Purrfessor, and Doseone, the composer of the original game’s soundtrack, returns with a new score to puzzle to. English has full voice acting, and the text is in French, Italian, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Latin American Spanish.

The free demo

The demo has been free on Steam since Dec. 9, 2025, and covers about the first hour of the game, starting with an introductory puzzle course. The Oct. 16, 2026, update brought big performance gains, fixed translations, reworked clues in the levels A Clued Awakening and That Rings a Bell and, most important, stopped wiping saves at the end of the demo, so your progress carries over to the full game on Nov. 5.

Platforms: PS5, Xbox and PC, without Switch

Coin Crew Games has announced PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC, and the Nintendo eShop has no listing for the sequel. The first game reached Switch later as Escape Academy: The Complete Edition, at $29.99, after launching on PC on July 13, 2022. On PC, Steam lists Windows 11, an Intel Core i5-8400, 16 GB of memory, a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and 5 GB of storage as the minimum, and an AMD Ryzen 7 2700 with an RTX 3060 as recommended.

The first Escape Academy

Coin Crew Games, a team of veteran puzzle designers, released Escape Academy with publisher iam8bit in 2022, and more than 4 million players have tried it. It costs $19.99 on Steam, with two expansions, Escape From Anti-Escape Island and Escape From the Past, at $9.99 each. The sequel is open to newcomers, so the first game is a bonus rather than homework.

Nov. 5 is a crowded launch day, as our new games in November 2026 list shows, and for the rest of the season on Sony’s console, see our upcoming PS5 games.
