MacBook Pro M6 release date: not announced, and M6 is only in the Mac mini so far

Apple hasn’t announced a MacBook Pro with M6. The M6 chip arrived on Aug. 25, 2026, in the new Mac mini, which is still the only Mac that has it. The MacBook Pro you can buy today runs on M5, M5 Pro or M5 Max, and Apple’s Oct. 13 announcements covered home products, not Macs.

When will the MacBook Pro M6 come out?

Apple hasn’t said. Apple’s own launch history shows a pattern, which it has not confirmed for this year: the 14-inch MacBook Pro got each new base chip in October. The M3 model was announced on Oct. 30, 2023, the M4 model on Oct. 30, 2024, and the M5 model on Oct. 15, 2025.

This year went differently. Apple debuted the base M6 chip in a desktop first, the Mac mini, on Aug. 25. Its Oct. 13 announcements were HomeView, the new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2, with no new Mac. The higher-end MacBook Pro models moved to M5 Pro and M5 Max only in March 2026.

What M6 adds over M5

Apple has published the M6 specs, so we know what the chip would bring to a laptop, even if Apple hasn’t announced one. M6 is Apple’s first 2-nanometer chip, and every main part of it is bigger than in M5.

Apple says M6 has the world’s fastest CPU core for single-threaded work, 50% higher geometry rates for complex graphics, and two Neural Engines that apps can use at the same time to run AI models faster. In the Mac mini, Apple pairs M6 with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and three Thunderbolt 4 ports.

What the MacBook Pro costs now

MacBook Pro prices on Apple’s US store are higher than when Apple announced these models. In March, Apple said the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 and 1TB of storage started at $1,699. On Oct. 14, the store lists it at $1,999. Apple has not announced the change in a press release.

The Mac mini has kept its launch prices: Apple’s store lists it from $899 with M6 and $1,699 with M5 Pro, the same as on Aug. 25.

MacBook Pro with M5 today

The current 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 has a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, 16GB to 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage standard. Apple rates it at up to 24 hours of battery life, and it has a Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness and a nano-texture option. The M5 model has Thunderbolt 4 ports. The M5 Pro and M5 Max models add an up-to-18-core CPU, up to 128GB of memory on M5 Max, Thunderbolt 5 and a 16-inch option.
