Witcher 5 release date: not announced, but CD Projekt's trilogy plan points to about 2031

The Witcher 5 doesn't have a release date, and CD Projekt Red hasn't announced it by name. What the company has announced is a plan: a new Witcher trilogy that starts with The Witcher 4, released within six years of The Witcher 4's launch, or one game every three years on average. The Witcher 4 has a target window of 2028, so that plan puts The Witcher 5 around 2031 and the third game around 2034. Those years are our reading of the plan, not dates from CD Projekt Red, which says it won't comment on the status of work on the next games. There's no platform, price or trailer for The Witcher 5.

The Witcher 5 has no release date, but CD Projekt Red’s plan for the new trilogy points to about 2031. Here’s what the company has said, how the math works and what comes first.

When does The Witcher 5 come out?

CD Projekt Red hasn’t announced a date, and it hasn’t announced The Witcher 5 by name. The only firm marker is The Witcher 4, which has a target release window of 2028. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski revealed that window on Aug. 24, 2026, and the company repeated it with its first-half results on Sept. 2, 2026. Our Witcher 4 release date page has everything about it.

What CD Projekt Red has shared is a pace. It wants to release the whole new trilogy within six years of The Witcher 4’s launch. If The Witcher 4 arrives in 2028 and the studio keeps to that pace, The Witcher 5 would land around 2031 and the third game around 2034. Those are our estimates, built on the company’s own plan, and any delay to The Witcher 4 would push both back.

CD Projekt Red’s six-year trilogy plan

The plan came up again in CD Projekt Red’s investor chat on Sept. 3, 2026, the day after its first-half results. An investor asked whether the company still planned Witcher games two years apart and whether it had started on The Witcher 5. CFO Piotr Nielubowicz corrected the premise: the ambition is to publish the new trilogy within six years of The Witcher 4’s release, which works out to “one game every 3 years, on average.” The company stands by that target, Nielubowicz said, but won’t comment on the status of work on the next games.

On the first-quarter earnings call in May 2026, the Joint CEO described the same plan as three Witcher games in a six-year period. Because that schedule is so tight, Nowakowski said, it would be difficult to add expansions to the new trilogy. That’s a change from The Witcher 3, which got two full expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and gets a third, Songs of the Past, in 2027.

How fast CD Projekt Red has made Witcher games

Three years per game would be quick for CD Projekt Red. The original trilogy ran from 2007 to 2015: The Witcher came out in October 2007, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings on May 17, 2011, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on May 19, 2015. The gap from The Witcher 3 to The Witcher 4 is set to be about 13 years.

The new saga also starts on a new engine. The Witcher 4 is built in Unreal Engine 5, and CD Projekt Red has worked with Epic Games on open-world tools for it since 2022. As of July 31, 2026, 519 of CD Projekt Red’s 1,045 developers were working on The Witcher 4, its largest team, and 184 were on Cyberpunk 2. The company hasn’t disclosed a team for any later Witcher game.

Very little, because it hasn’t been announced. CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 4 marks the beginning of a new saga, with Ciri, Geralt of Rivia’s adopted daughter, as its protagonist. It hasn’t said who leads the next two games or where they’re set.

There are no platforms either. For The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red names PC, PlayStation and Xbox, without naming console generations, and its current build runs on PS5 and Xbox Series X. A game landing around 2031 could arrive on hardware that hasn’t been announced yet. There’s also no trailer, no title card and no codename for The Witcher 5.

Expected price

CD Projekt Red hasn’t priced The Witcher 4, let alone The Witcher 5. Expected price: about $69.99, our estimate, the same as our estimate for The Witcher 4. The Witcher 3 launched at $59.99 in 2015, and $69.99 is the usual price of big new games. A game years away could cost more, but there’s no announcement to go on.

What comes before The Witcher 5

CD Projekt Red has planned one large Witcher release a year until The Witcher 4. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered came out on Sept. 29, 2026, as a free upgrade on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S and Switch 2; our Witcher 3 remake page explains who gets it free. Songs of the Past, the third full expansion for The Witcher 3, follows in 2027, and The Witcher 4 in 2028.

On the first-half earnings call, Nowakowski said that list isn’t everything the company is working on in The Witcher universe. Separately, Fool’s Theory is building a remake of the first Witcher game, which still has no date; see our Witcher remake release date page. For other big games still years away, see The Elder Scrolls 6 release date.

This page is updated as soon as CD Projekt Red announces The Witcher 5, changes the trilogy plan or gives The Witcher 4 an exact date.
