Star Wars Battlefront 3 release date: EA hasn't announced a new Battlefront since 2017
Star Wars Battlefront 3 doesn't have a release date, because EA hasn't announced it. The last game in the series, DICE's Star Wars Battlefront II, came out on Nov. 17, 2017, and EA's newest Star Wars game is the tactics game Star Wars Zero Company, released on Aug. 27, 2026.
Star Wars Battlefront II is nine years old next month, and fans still want a third game. Here’s what EA has actually released and announced.
When does Star Wars Battlefront 3 come out?
There’s no release date, because EA hasn’t announced Star Wars Battlefront 3. It hasn’t revealed a studio, a platform or a trailer, and dates shared online aren’t official. Reports that DICE pitched a third game and that EA turned it down haven’t been confirmed by EA or DICE.
The last game in the series is Star Wars Battlefront II from DICE, which came out on Nov. 17, 2017. By simple arithmetic, that’s nearly nine years as of October 2026. For other big games still waiting on dates, see our list of upcoming games in 2027.
Why the name gets confusing
No game called Star Wars Battlefront 3 has ever come out. The series started with Star Wars Battlefront in 2004 and Star Wars Battlefront II in 2005, and DICE later reused both names for EA’s two games, so the next DICE game would be the third in that line. A third game in the original series never came out either.
The two classic games came back in the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection from Aspyr, which reached Steam on March 13, 2024. Each classic game is also sold separately on Steam for $9.99.
What EA is making instead
EA’s newest Star Wars game is Star Wars Zero Company, a single-player turn-based tactics game from Bit Reactor, made with Respawn and Lucasfilm Games. It came out on Aug. 27, 2026, and it’s $49.99 on Steam. Respawn is also working on the third Star Wars Jedi game, which doesn’t have a date yet; see the Star Wars Jedi 3 release date page.
EA became a private company on Aug. 4, 2026, and it hasn’t said whether that changes its plans for Star Wars.
Where to play Battlefront now
Star Wars Battlefront II is on PC and consoles, including PS4, and it’s $39.99 on Steam. DICE’s first game, Star Wars Battlefront, is $19.99 on Steam. Both reached Steam on June 11, 2020.
