Pokémon Gen 10 release date: Winds and Waves arrive in 2027, only on Switch 2

The next generation of Pokémon has a year but not a date. Here’s when Pokémon Gen 10 comes out, what it’s called and what The Pokémon Company has revealed so far.

When does Pokémon Gen 10 come out?

In 2027. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves launch worldwide on the same day, only on Nintendo Switch 2. As of Oct. 17, 2026, The Pokémon Company hasn’t announced a month or a day, and Nintendo’s US store lists both games for 2027 without pre-orders.

The games weren’t part of the announcements at PokémonXP and the World Championships in San Francisco at the end of August, and the official site still shows the details from the February reveal.

Is Gen 10 Pokémon Winds and Waves?

Yes. Winds and Waves are the first main Pokémon RPGs with a new region and new starters since Scarlet and Violet, which is what fans call a new generation. The Pokémon Company doesn’t number generations in its announcements. Its Feb. 27, 2026, press release calls them “the newest entries in the Pokémon RPG series.”

They were revealed in the Pokémon Presents on Feb. 27, 2026, Pokémon Day, as the centerpiece of the series' 30th anniversary. Game Freak is developing them, and Nintendo is listed as the publisher on its US store.

When did past generations come out?

In November. According to Nintendo’s US store, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield came out on Nov. 15, 2019, and Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet followed on Nov. 18, 2022, three years later, with the open world of the Paldea region. Pokémon Scarlet still costs $59.99 on the store.

Winds and Waves will arrive at least four years after Scarlet and Violet. The Pokémon Company hasn’t said whether the 2027 launch falls in the fall, as the last two did.

Who are the Gen 10 starters?

Three new first partner Pokémon. Browt, the Bean Chick Pokémon, is the Grass type, with the Overgrow ability. Pombon, the Puppy Pokémon, is the Fire type, with Blaze. Gecqua, the Water Gecko Pokémon, is the Water type, with Torrent.

The Pokémon Company hasn’t revealed their evolutions or their final types. Our Pokémon Winds and Waves release date page has the full details on each starter, including height and weight.

What about the region, legendaries and Pokédex?

Not much yet. The region doesn’t have an official name. The Pokémon Company describes an open world of windswept islands and a vast ocean, where Pokémon have developed their own unique ecosystems, and your character’s outfit differs between the two versions.

The legendary Pokémon on the boxes haven’t been revealed, and neither has the size of the Pokédex. The only new Pokémon shown so far are the three starters and two Pikachu with a new look, Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu. The Pokémon Company hasn’t confirmed any of the evolutions, region names or other details that circulate online.

Price and platforms

There’s no price yet. Recent Pokémon games on Switch 2 cost $69.99 on Nintendo’s US store, including Pokémon Pokopia and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Winds and Waves are Switch 2 exclusives, with no version for the original Switch. Starting with these games, Brazilian Portuguese becomes a selectable language in the main series.
