- Switch 2

Capcom’s samurai action game runs on Switch 2 with its own motion controls. Here’s how Onimusha: Way of the Sword performs on Nintendo’s console, what it costs and how to try it first.
When did Onimusha come out on Switch 2?
On Sept. 4, 2026, the same day as on PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC. Capcom moved the date up after the demo, announcing the earlier launch on July 2, 2026. The game is rated M for Mature by the ESRB and is single-player only.

You play as Miyamoto Musashi, whose face Capcom modeled on the late samurai movie star Toshiro Mifune. With the Oni Gauntlet, Musashi cuts down Genma, demons from the underworld, and absorbs their souls in an Edo-period Kyoto twisted by clouds of Malice, with landmarks like Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
How does it run on Switch 2?
Capcom lists two settings for Switch 2. In TV mode, the game outputs 1920 × 1080 using upscaling and runs at 30 to 50 fps. In handheld mode, it outputs 1600 × 900, also with upscaling, at 30 fps, and you can change the settings to a variable frame rate between 30 and 40 fps. Capcom notes that performance may vary.

Nintendo’s store lists HDR output on compatible TVs, touch screen support and surround sound. The game plays in TV, tabletop and handheld mode.
What does the Switch 2 version add?
Motion controls. Capcom calls them a play experience exclusive to Switch 2: you shake the right Joy-Con 2 horizontally for a one-handed attack and vertically for a two-handed attack, aim the Oni Bow by moving it while holding ZR, and shake both controllers at once to use Oni Strength: Destroy. Every action also works with buttons.

How much is it, and is there a demo?
Nintendo’s US eShop sells the Standard Edition for $69.99, the Deluxe Edition for $79.99 and the Premium Deluxe Edition for $89.99, the same as Steam. The Deluxe Kit adds outfits, sword appearances and charms, and the Premium Deluxe Edition adds more outfits on top. The download is about 32 GB, according to Nintendo’s store data.

A free demo is on the eShop, and Capcom says players with demo save data get a bonus to use in the full game. Capcom’s official site also says the game has sold over 1 million units worldwide.
