Monster Hunter Wilds is getting its Iceborne. Capcom’s first big expansion, Ascendance, is set for 2027, and while it still has no day or price, Capcom has already shown a lot of what’s in it.

When does Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance come out?

The official answer is 2027. Capcom revealed Ascendance in June 2026, and both its official site and its Steam page list the release only as 2027. There’s no month, no price and no pre-order yet, just a Steam wishlist.

The expansion comes with a free update for the base game too. Capcom says the Ver. 2 update arrives alongside Ascendance with quality-of-life changes, and it will rework Character Edits for all players. Character Edit Vouchers stop being available when Ascendance comes out, and Capcom is handing out free vouchers in the meantime, starting Dec. 3, 2026.

For a sense of timing, Monster Hunter Wilds came out on Feb. 28, 2025, so any 2027 date means a longer wait than the last two expansions had. Iceborne reached consoles about 19 months after Monster Hunter World, and Sunbreak about 15 months after Rise.

New monsters and the Skybound Eyrie

The story picks up several years after Wilds. The giant elder dragon Lao-Shan Lung suddenly appears in the Forbidden Lands and overwhelms the hunters. Afterward, the Guild and the people of the Eastlands build Madoi Stronghold to prepare for its return, and the mist above clears to reveal the Skybound Eyrie, a chain of ancient ruins on islands floating in the sky. You can ride updrafts there and glide on your Seikret. Nata, now fully grown, comes along.

Capcom has confirmed six monsters so far. The new ones are Gundoraja, an elder dragon that wraps itself in storm clouds and calls down lightning, known as the Black Sky’s Wrath, and Araketa, a bird wyvern that rockets through the Skybound Eyrie on bursts of air, known as the Jetstream Wyvern. Returning are the elder dragons Teostra, wreathed in flames, Kushala Daora, which shields itself with fierce winds, and Lao-Shan Lung, so big that it causes disasters just by walking. Khezu, an electric wyvern that lives in caves, rounds out the list. Teostra and Khezu were both revealed at Tokyo Game Show in September.

The Boost Bracer and Master Rank

Like Iceborne and Sunbreak, Ascendance adds Master Rank quests, the tougher tier above High Rank. The big new mechanic is the Boost Bracer. Activating it temporarily boosts certain attacks and unlocks Boost Drivers, new powerful moves. Capcom posted a breakdown video for each of the 14 weapon types in September, from the Great Sword to the Heavy Bowgun.

Price, platforms and what you need to play

Capcom hasn’t announced a price. The last two expansions, Iceborne and Sunbreak, each cost $39.99 on Steam.

Ascendance is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. Cross-play works across all of them and can be turned off. There’s no cross-save or cross-buy, so your progress and paid DLC stay on the platform you bought them on. On Switch 2, online play needs a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.

To play, you need Monster Hunter Wilds and the 7★ assignment Awaking From a Dream completed in the base game. Wilds itself now costs $39.99 on Steam, after Capcom cut the price on Aug. 4, 2026, and there’s a free Prologue Demo covering the opening chapters. The Switch 2 version of Wilds launches on Friday, Dec. 4, 2026, and its demo arrives on Oct. 20. It’s on our list of upcoming Switch 2 games.

When Capcom could announce the date

Capcom has used its own shows for Monster Hunter news. Teostra and the weapon videos came out around Capcom Spotlight during Tokyo Game Show in September, and the Switch 2 release in December gives Capcom another reason to talk about Wilds before the year ends. The biggest showcase left in 2026 is The Game Awards on Dec. 10, covered on our Game Awards 2026 page.

Ascendance is one of the bigger 2027 releases still waiting for a date, along with others on our list of upcoming games in 2027.

This page is updated as soon as Capcom announces a release date, a price or new monsters for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance.
