Samus is back in 2D, and the date is set. Here’s when Metroid Ravenous comes out, what each edition costs and what Nintendo has shown so far.
When does Metroid Ravenous come out?
Metroid Ravenous comes out on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2027, and it’s coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo revealed it during the Nintendo Direct on Sept. 9, 2026, as an all-new 2D adventure for Samus Aran, and pre-orders opened the same day.
It’s a single-player game. Nintendo’s US store lists 13 languages, including American English, Latin American Spanish, Canadian French and Brazilian Portuguese.
Price and editions
On Nintendo’s US store, the standard game costs $59.99 as a download and $69.99 as a physical copy. The Metroid Ravenous Special Edition costs $119.99 and comes with the game, the Samus (Metroid Suit) amiibo and a SteelBook case, and the store limits it to two per cart.

That Samus (Metroid Suit) figure is only sold in the Special Edition. Both the standard and special editions launch on Jan. 28.
Metroid Ravenous amiibo
Two more amiibo come out on Jan. 28, 2027, sold on their own: Samus for $24.99 and the Chozo Statue for $44.99. You tap them to the system for in-game extras, though Nintendo hasn’t said yet exactly what each figure unlocks in Metroid Ravenous.
What Metroid Ravenous is about
Samus Aran is ambushed by unknown attackers and stranded on an unfamiliar moon, badly hurt after a crash landing. To escape, you gather weapons, work through a maze of corridors and labyrinthine ruins and hunt down bosses. Nintendo’s tagline is that it’s eat or be eaten, and the twist is Samus’s newly awakened Metroid instincts, which let you devour enemies. Beams and missiles are still part of the arsenal, and Nintendo says you’ll need to attack quickly and aggressively.

Is Metroid Ravenous Metroid Prime 5?
No. Metroid Ravenous is a 2D game, separate from the first-person Prime series, and Nintendo hasn’t announced a Metroid Prime 5. The latest Prime game, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, came out on Dec. 4, 2025. It costs $59.99 on Switch and $69.99 in its Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, and Switch owners can upgrade for $9.99. Metroid Prime Remastered is $39.99.
