Does Metroid Prime 4 have DLC?
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has no story DLC or expansion. Retro Studios and Nintendo released it on Dec. 4, 2025, on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and the Nintendo US store lists one paid add-on: the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack.
That pack upgrades the game rather than adding to it, so the full adventure on Viewros is the same on both consoles. The difference is how it runs and how you aim.
Is Metroid Prime 4 DLC coming?

The $9.99 Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack
The Upgrade Pack costs $9.99 and turns the $59.99 Switch version into the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which sells for $69.99 on its own. It lets you aim with a Joy-Con 2 used as a mouse, and it adds enhanced resolution, frame rate and load times.
You pick between two display modes. Quality Mode runs at 60 frames per second in 4K docked and 1080p handheld, and Performance Mode runs at 120 frames per second in 1080p docked and 720p handheld. Both modes support HDR.
What Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is about
The deadly sharpshooter Sylux finally catches up with the bounty hunter Samus Aran. After an unexpected accident in the wake of their clash, Samus is transported to Viewros, a mysterious planet once inhabited by an ancient race, and has to explore it, battling its creatures, to find a way home.
You scan your surroundings for clues and use Samus’s new psychic abilities to operate mechanisms and control the charge beam. A technologically advanced bike, the Vi-O-La, carries Samus across the planet’s open areas.
Switch or Switch 2 Edition?
On a Switch 2, the $69.99 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is the one to buy: it’s the same adventure with mouse aiming, the 4K Quality Mode, the 120 fps Performance Mode, HDR and faster load times. The $59.99 Switch version also plays on Switch 2 through backward compatibility, but without those improvements until you add the $9.99 Upgrade Pack.
On an original Switch, the $59.99 version is the only choice, and it keeps the full story, scanning, psychic abilities and the Vi-O-La. If you plan to move to Switch 2 later, buying the Switch version first costs nothing extra in the end, because the Upgrade Pack brings the total to the same $69.99.
Rating, players and languages
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is rated Teen for Animated Blood and Violence. It’s a single-player game that runs in TV, tabletop and handheld modes, and it supports Save Data Cloud for Nintendo Switch Online members, so your progress on Viewros is backed up online.
The game includes 14 languages, among them American English, British English, Latin American Spanish, Canadian French, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

On the Nintendo US store on Oct. 19, 2026, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond cost $59.99 on Switch and $69.99 for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, with the $9.99 Upgrade Pack for Switch owners who move to the new console. Neither version was on sale. Metroid Prime Remastered, the 2023 remake of the first Prime game, cost $39.99.
Buying the Switch version and the Upgrade Pack separately adds up to the same $69.99 as the Switch 2 Edition, so Switch owners lose nothing by upgrading later.
The next Metroid: Metroid Ravenous
Nintendo’s next Metroid is Metroid Ravenous, an all-new 2D adventure coming on Jan. 28, 2027, only on Switch 2. It costs $59.99 digital and $69.99 physical, and a $119.99 Special Edition adds an exclusive Samus amiibo and a SteelBook case.
