Max Payne remake release date: no date yet for Remedy's 1 & 2 remake
The Max Payne remake doesn't have a release date. Remedy Entertainment is rebuilding Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne as a single game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, in a development agreement with Rockstar Games, but neither company has shared a date, a year or a trailer. Remedy announced the project on April 6, 2022, and its investor site still lists it as in development.

The Max Payne remake is still in the works, and there’s still no date. Here’s what Remedy has confirmed, where the project stands and when the next official update comes.
When does the Max Payne remake come out?
Remedy hasn’t announced a release date. There’s no year, no window and no trailer for the Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake, and Rockstar Games hasn’t put a date on it either.

What’s official is the shape of the game. Remedy says it will remake Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne as a single title, a third-person shooter for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The studio’s page for the remake has a field for the release year, and it’s still empty.
Where the remake stands
Remedy announced the project on April 6, 2022, in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games. Remedy made the original games, and its investor site lists the remake under partner IP rather than its own franchises, with the status in development.

The last stage change Remedy reported came in its report for the first half of 2024, which said the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake had moved into full production. Counting from the announcement, the project is about four and a half years old, and about two and a half years into full production. That’s simple arithmetic, not a Remedy date, and it doesn’t point to a launch window.
Remedy has been busy with other games in the meantime. Its newest release, CONTROL Resonant, came out on Sept. 24, 2026, and passed 1 million copies sold within three weeks.
When will we hear more?
The next official checkpoint is Remedy’s Q3 2026 business review on Nov. 3, 2026, at 9 a.m. Eastern European Time, which is 2 a.m. ET. Remedy hosts a webcast for investors and media three hours later. Remedy’s reports have covered the remake’s progress before. On Rockstar’s side, the calendar is led by GTA 6 on Nov. 19.
Can you play the original Max Payne games now?
Yes. Max Payne, first released in 2001, and Max Payne 2, from 2003, are both on Steam, each with a list price of $9.99. Rockstar’s Max Payne 3, not part of the remake, is on Steam at $19.99.

The original Max Payne came out on PC, PS2, Xbox, Game Boy Advance and later iOS, and Max Payne 2 on PC, Xbox and PS2. For another Rockstar series fans keep asking about, see what we know about Red Dead Redemption 3.
