Wo Long 2 release date: Wings of Ember arrives March 4, 2027, on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC

Team Ninja’s Three Kingdoms sequel has a date on every platform. Here’s when Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember comes out, what it costs and what Koei Tecmo has confirmed about the game.

When does Wo Long 2 come out?

On Thursday, March 4, 2027. Koei Tecmo’s official site gives that date for every version, and Steam and the Xbox store list March 4, 2027, as well. The date was announced on Sept. 15, 2026, on the PlayStation Blog, along with a new trailer and an Alpha Demo that was available until Sept. 30, 2026.

Pre-orders opened with the announcement. Steam notes that pre-orders arrive later in some countries and regions, and PC system requirements are still listed as to be determined.

Which platforms, and is it on Game Pass?

Wo Long 2 comes to PS5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, through Steam and Xbox on PC, and it’s playable on Xbox Cloud. The official site also lists Xbox Game Pass among the digital versions, with a note that the Game Pass version doesn’t include any bonuses. The Xbox store version is Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers console and PC.

Physical copies are planned for PS5, Xbox Series X and S and Switch 2. Nintendo’s US store doesn’t list the game yet, so there’s no Switch 2 price. The first game’s Complete Edition already came to Switch 2 on Sept. 3, 2026, at $59.99.

How much is it, and what’s in each edition?

Steam and the Xbox store list the standard edition at $69.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition at $99.99. The Deluxe Edition adds the Season Pass, with two major DLCs of new stories, enemies, demons and bosses, plus the Creator God Armor set, a digital artbook, a digital mini soundtrack and the Shitieshou Hat.

Koei Tecmo schedules the first DLC by Aug. 31, 2027, and the second by Oct. 31, 2027. Digital pre-orders get the Creator Goddess Garb set, and anyone who buys the game by March 17, 2027, gets the Harvest God Armor set.

What is Wo Long 2 about?

It’s set in China in 208, when Cao Cao’s forces destroy the hidden village where the protagonist lives with a friend, the scholar Pang Tong. The story then follows the invasion of Jing Province, an alliance with Liu Bei and Sun Quan, and the road to the decisive Battle of the Red Cliffs, in a dark fantasy version of the Three Kingdoms overrun by demons from Chinese classical literature.

The famous battlefields, including Changban and the Red Cliffs, are open fields this time. You can capture enemy bases, set traps and recruit enemy generals to turn a battle around, and you create your own character.

What’s new in combat?

Deflect is back, with a new Aerial Deflect, and Insight Skills let you counter attacks, throw enemies into walls and slam airborne foes into the ground. There are 18 weapon categories, two of them new, including jointed flails, along with Wizardry Spells and Divine Beast Manifestation.

The game supports online co-op, and the Xbox store lists cross-platform co-op, 4K, HDR and 60 fps. Other players' characters can also show up as enemy warriors in an asynchronous mode, and beating them lets you recruit them.

Do you need to play the first game?

No. Characters from the first game return in important roles, but Koei Tecmo says the story is designed so “even newcomers to the series can enjoy it without feeling lost.” Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty came out on March 3, 2023, and the official site counts more than 8 million series players worldwide.
