When does Metro 2039 come out?
On Thursday, Feb. 4, 2027. Deep Silver says it launches on all platforms that day, PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC, through Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC. In some territories, including Asia, Australia and New Zealand, it’s available on Feb. 5.
Deep Silver announced the date on Sept. 2, 2026, alongside the first console gameplay footage, which premiered during PlayStation’s State of Play. There are no versions for PS4 or Xbox One.
How much is it, and what are the editions?
Pre-orders opened on Oct. 13, 2026. Steam and the Xbox store list the Standard Edition at $69.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $99.99. The Deluxe Edition adds the Story Expansion DLC, due in 2027, a digital art book and the digital soundtrack, and the physical Deluxe Edition adds an exclusive steelbook and a hardback art book.
The Collector’s Edition includes the physical Deluxe Edition and a wearable replica of the Stranger’s Spartan helmet. It’s sold in limited quantities through select retailers, without an official price; our Metro 2039 Collector’s Edition page has the details.
Every pre-order gets the Specialist Pack, three blueprints that unlock swappable backpack upgrades early. On Steam, the Deluxe pre-order is 10% off if you already bought a qualifying digital Metro game.
What is Metro 2039 about?
It’s set in Moscow in 2039, a quarter century after a nuclear war drove the last survivors into the Metro tunnels. The factions there have been united under a single leader, a fanatical Spartan called Hunter, whose Novoreich regime rules through propaganda and fear and is preparing a new war for the surface.

You play as the Stranger, a recluse haunted by violent waking nightmares who is forced out of exile and back into the Metro. Deep Silver describes a single-player story that mixes exploration, survival, combat and stealth, and it’s the next mainline Metro game, with an original story written with Dmitry Glukhovsky, the author of the Metro novels.
How does it run on consoles?
Deep Silver confirms a 60 fps Performance Mode with ray tracing at launch on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X, and it says Metro 2039 is the first game in the series built from the ground up for ray tracing, in 4A Games' own 4A Engine. It hasn’t published details on Xbox Series S modes or PC system requirements yet.

After launch, Deep Silver promises several free updates for all editions, and it plans to share a full post-launch roadmap closer to release.
Do you need to play the earlier games?
No. Deep Silver calls Metro 2039 a good jumping-on point for new players, with a new protagonist and a new cast, while long-time fans will find ties to the existing universe. The last mainline game, Metro Exodus, came out in 2019.
