Kena: Scars of Kosmora release date: delayed to 2027 on PS5 and PC, with no day or price yet

Ember Lab’s sequel slipped a year. Here’s when Kena: Scars of Kosmora comes out, where you can play it and what the studio has shared about the story.

When does Kena: Scars of Kosmora come out?

In 2027, on PS5 and PC. Ember Lab hasn’t given a month or a day, and PlayStation’s official page says the release date is to be determined as of Oct. 17, 2026. There’s no price yet, and the ESRB rating is pending.

Why was it delayed?

The game was revealed at PlayStation’s State of Play on Feb. 12, 2026, for release that year. On Oct. 1, 2026, Ember Lab moved it into 2027, explaining that it wants to beat the quality of Bridge of Spirits at a much bigger scale. “To do that we need just a bit more time,” the studio wrote, adding that the extra months are for polishing the expanded game.

Platforms: PS5, PC and Switch 2

On PS5, the game comes in physical and digital form. On PC, it’s digital only, through Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Steam lists the PC requirements as still to be determined. Ember Lab hasn’t announced versions for Switch 2 or Xbox, and the game is made in partnership with PlayStation Studios, with Sony listed as the publisher.

Price and pre-orders

Neither is available yet. Steam shows the game as coming soon without a price, and the PlayStation Store only offers a wishlist button. Steam lists it as a single-player game with full controller support, including the DualSense.

What is the story about?

Kena is older now and a renowned Spirit Guide, someone who is equal parts warrior and healer for spirits that can’t move on. Seeking answers about a lifelong affliction, Kena travels to the island of Kosmora to meet Orfio, a childhood friend who believes the island holds the answers both of them need. There, a powerful spirit fractures Kena’s staff, which was keeping Kena alive, and the only way to survive is a forgotten form of Spirit Guiding that uses alchemy to bend the elements.

Kosmora was once home to four cultures, each guided by an element, until a cataclysm destroyed one of them. Its ancient temples work as dungeons with puzzles and big rewards, and elemental Spirit Companions grow stronger as your bond deepens. A crystalline canine spirit serves as a mount and fights alongside Kena, both mounted and on foot.

Is it open world, and do you need the first game?

It isn’t open world. Ember Lab calls it a character-focused linear adventure, like the first game, but broader and deeper, with plenty to find off the main path. You don’t need to have played Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which came out on Sept. 21, 2021; the studio says it’s making the sequel for returning players and newcomers alike.
