GTA 7 release date: Rockstar hasn't announced GTA 7, and GTA 6 doesn't come out until Nov. 19
There's no GTA 7 release date, because Rockstar Games hasn't announced GTA 7. As of Oct. 16, 2026, Rockstar's next game is GTA 6, which comes out on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and neither Rockstar nor its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has named a Grand Theft Auto game after it. Take-Two's latest annual report says the series has sold-in more than 465 million units, including over 225 million copies of GTA V, and that Rockstar keeps investing in the franchise.
GTA 7 doesn’t exist yet, at least not officially. Rockstar hasn’t announced it, and GTA 6 is still a month from launch. Here’s what Rockstar and Take-Two have actually said.
Has Rockstar announced GTA 7?
No. There’s no GTA 7 announcement, no release date, no window and no platforms. Rockstar’s only announced Grand Theft Auto game is GTA 6, which comes out on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, lists every game it has announced in its earnings releases. In the Aug. 7, 2026, release, GTA 6 is the only Rockstar game among the upcoming titles. Take-Two’s annual report, filed in May 2026, says Rockstar continues to invest in the franchise and builds on its series with sequels, but it doesn’t name anything after GTA 6.
How long Rockstar takes between GTA games
The gaps keep getting longer. GTA IV came out on April 29, 2008, and GTA V followed on Sept. 17, 2013, about five and a half years later. GTA 6 arrives more than 13 years after GTA V, after two delays, first from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026, and then to Nov. 19, 2026.
Rockstar also confirms a new GTA years before it ships. It said in February 2022 that development on the next Grand Theft Auto was well underway, then released the first GTA 6 trailer in December 2023 and the second in May 2025. Even if Rockstar matched the shorter of its last two gaps, another GTA would land in the 2030s.
Why GTA 6 will have the spotlight for years
GTA V shows how long one Grand Theft Auto can last. It came out on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, moved to PS4, Xbox One and PC, and reached PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in March 2022. Take-Two says it has sold-in more than 225 million units, and GTA Online, which comes with it, still gets big updates, like the Kortz Center Heist summer update on July 14, 2026.
Grand Theft Auto games made up 12.4% of Take-Two’s net revenue in the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2026, and the company expects record net bookings of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion in the year that includes GTA 6’s launch. Rockstar hasn’t announced an online mode for GTA 6 yet, and our GTA 6 Online page tracks what it has said.
Every GTA setting so far
Rockstar hasn’t said anything about where a GTA 7 would take place. The series has mostly stayed in fictional American cities: Liberty City, based on New York, in GTA III and GTA IV; Vice City, based on Miami, in Vice City and now GTA 6; and San Andreas, with Los Santos standing in for Los Angeles, in San Andreas and GTA V. The only trip abroad came with the GTA: London expansions for the original game in 1999.

Rumors, and what to watch next
Claims about a GTA 7 setting, release year or map show up online every few months. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed any of them, and it hasn’t confirmed that a GTA 7 is in development.
The next big dates belong to GTA 6: digital preloading opens on Nov. 12, and the game launches on Nov. 19. When does GTA 7 come out?
