FFXIV Evercold release date: January 2027, with 2 new jobs and no pre-orders yet

Final Fantasy XIV’s next expansion is three months out, but Square Enix still hasn’t named the day. Here’s what’s official.

When does FFXIV Evercold come out?

In January 2027, with no exact day. Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida revealed Evercold at Fan Festival 2026 in Anaheim, and Square Enix announced the January window on April 24, 2026. A second keynote in Berlin on July 25 kept the same month.

The next chance for a date is Fan Festival 2026 in Tokyo, which Square Enix calls its third and final fan festival before Evercold. The keynote starts on Oct. 30, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT), and a development panel follows on Oct. 31. Both will stream on the official Final Fantasy XIV YouTube and Twitch channels.

When do Evercold pre-orders open?

Square Enix hasn’t said, and there’s no price yet. On July 25, it showed the Evercold Collector’s Bundle, with an art box, a reaper figure, a metal keychain, a Köttr mini plush and a tapestry of the Fourth. The bundle also includes the digital Collector’s Edition, which adds the Crystal Skyltborg weapon for the Bastion, the Vallhallar Odin mount and the Entreat Crystal emote. Square Enix said availability and pre-order details will be announced later.

What are the new jobs in Evercold?

There are two. The first is Bastion, a main tank that fights with a pair of greatshields called skyltborg, revealed with its own trailer in Berlin. The second is a physical ranged damage dealer, and Square Enix hasn’t named it yet.

Both new jobs can only be played in Evolved mode, part of a battle system overhaul. Players can switch between Reborn mode, based on the current combat system, and Evolved mode, which is designed to bring out each job’s identity. The level cap goes up from 100 to 110.

Which platforms is Evercold on?

The official Evercold site lists PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch 2, Windows, Mac and Steam. Square Enix announced the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XIV at the April keynote and set its launch for Aug. 4, 2026.

You don’t need to buy Evercold to get some of the changes. Square Enix says the overall game design changes, the new battle system, PvP updates and Duty Support updates also come to players who don’t buy it. That includes Seasons, a new way to earn rewards and raise item level, an Armoury update that makes it easier to play several jobs, and expanded character customization with a color picker and finer control over eyes and lips. If you’re new, the free trial includes everything through the Shadowbringers expansion, Square Enix said on July 25.

What’s new in Evercold

Evercold starts the Godless Realms Saga. Facing a new threat called the Solstice, the Warrior of Light is sent to the Fourth reflection, a world lost to ice. The new areas sit aboard giant airships: Naglfar, the Realmship of Water, and Hringhorni, the Realmship of Fire, plus a new city, Fargarth. After a certain point in the main story, you choose the order of some areas, and Auto Content Balancing adjusts difficulty and enemy levels to your character’s level.

There are two raid crossovers. EVANGELION - Ghosts of Desire is an alliance raid series made with khara, the studio behind the anime, and Beyond the Lifestream is an eight-player raid series themed on Final Fantasy VII, made with the Final Fantasy VII Remake team. Eight-player raids also get a new difficulty between Normal and Savage, and a new Ultimate raid is planned. Character Action Skins let you swap the animations of general actions such as Teleport, with job actions to follow in later updates. From Patch 8.1, you can call your chocobo companion to help you in dungeons.
