Final Fantasy 17 release date: not announced, and Square Enix's next big Final Fantasy date is Evercold

Final Fantasy 17 doesn't have a release date, because Square Enix hasn't announced it. The latest numbered single-player game, Final Fantasy XVI, came out on PS5 on June 22, 2023, and on PC on Sept. 17, 2024. Square Enix's next dated Final Fantasy release is Evercold, the new Final Fantasy XIV expansion, due in January 2027, and the series has sold more than 212 million copies.

Square Enix hasn’t announced Final Fantasy 17, and its next dated Final Fantasy is an expansion, not a new numbered game. Here’s what’s official.

When does Final Fantasy 17 come out?

There’s no release date, because Square Enix hasn’t announced Final Fantasy XVII. It hasn’t revealed a title, a platform or a trailer, and dates and videos shared online under that name aren’t official.

The latest numbered single-player game, Final Fantasy XVI, came out on PS5 on June 22, 2023. By simple arithmetic, that’s more than three years as of October 2026. It reached PC on Sept. 17, 2024, where it’s $49.99 on Steam before discounts.

What Square Enix is releasing instead

The next Final Fantasy with a date is Evercold, the sixth expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, which Square Enix announced on April 24, 2026, for January 2027. It adds two new jobs, a tank and a physical ranged damage dealer, and the new jobs work only in a new combat mode called Evolved mode.

Square Enix has also brought Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X and S, and it named the new versions among the drivers of its sales in the quarter ended June 30, 2026. For the last part of that trilogy, see our Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 release date page.

How big Final Fantasy is

The series has sold more than 212 million copies worldwide, Square Enix said in its earnings release of August 2026. That release also counts more than 97 million for Dragon Quest, Square Enix’s other flagship series.
