Final Fantasy Resonance Steam Deck: Verified, but the first launch needs an internet connection

Final Fantasy Resonance is Steam Deck Verified, Valve's top compatibility rating, on the day its Steam version unlocked: Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, at 12 p.m. ET. Valve's report says every function works with the default controls, the game shows Steam Deck button icons, the text is legible and the default graphics settings run well. Two notes come with the rating: the first-time setup needs an active internet connection, and the game doesn't switch to an external controller on its own. The Steam version costs $49.99, uses Denuvo Anti-tamper and lists Windows 11 as its operating system.

Final Fantasy Resonance runs on Steam Deck with Valve’s top rating. The Steam version unlocked at 12 p.m. ET on Oct. 22, and it arrives Verified, with one online step on first launch. Here’s what the rating covers, the PC specs and what to know about DRM and controllers.

Yes. Valve’s compatibility report rates Square Enix’s HD-2D role-playing game Verified, the highest of its four ratings, ahead of Playable, Unsupported and Unknown. Valve’s report lists four passed tests:

  • Every function works with the default controller layout.
  • The game shows Steam Deck button icons.
  • The interface text is legible on the Deck’s screen.
  • The default graphics settings perform well on the Deck.

That makes it a plug-and-play handheld game: no community layouts and no settings tweaks before the first battle.

Two things to know before you play on the Deck. The rating comes with two notes. First, the first-time setup requires an active internet connection. Launch Final Fantasy Resonance for the first time while the Deck is online.

Second, the game doesn’t default to an external Bluetooth or USB controller. If you dock the Deck and pair a gamepad, set it as the active controller in the Quick Access Menu.

Steam Machine and Windows PCs. Valve gives the game the same Verified rating for the Steam Machine, with the same note about the online first launch. On Windows, the Steam page lists full controller support, DualSense support, Steam Input and a keyboard-only option.

Steam names Windows 11 as the operating system in both the minimum and the recommended specs, and the game is Windows-only on Steam; the Steam Deck and Steam Machine run it through Valve’s compatibility layer.

Minimum, for 1920 x 1080 at 30 fps on the Low preset:

  • OSWindows 11, 64-bit
  • ProcessorAMD Ryzen 3 2300X or Intel Core i3-8100
  • Memory8 GB
  • GraphicsAMD Radeon RX 6400, Intel Arc A580 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650
  • Storage15 GB, DirectX 12

Recommended, for 1920 x 1080 at 60 fps on the Highest preset, swaps in an AMD Ryzen 5 2500X and an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT, with the same memory and storage. Intel and Nvidia owners keep the Core i3-8100, Arc A580 and GTX 1650.

The Steam page lists Denuvo Anti-tamper as third-party DRM. Saves sync through Steam Cloud, so progress moves between a desktop and a Deck, and the game supports Family Sharing, achievements and trading cards.

English and Japanese have full voice acting on Steam. French, German, Spanish, Korean and Simplified and Traditional Chinese get interface and subtitles.

Final Fantasy Resonance costs $49.99 on Steam, and the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $59.99, the same as on Switch 2, Switch, PS5 and Xbox. The free demo, on Steam since Sept. 3, covers the story through the end of Chapter 1, and its saves carry over to the full game. Editions and bonuses are on our Final Fantasy Resonance release date page, and every region’s unlock time is on our release time page.

For the hardware, our Steam Deck price guide covers the current models, and our Steam Machine price and release date page covers Valve’s living-room PC.

This page is updated as soon as Valve changes the game’s Steam Deck rating or Square Enix posts its first PC patch.
