Elden Ring 2 release date: FromSoftware hasn't announced a sequel, but Elden Ring keeps growing
Elden Ring 2 doesn't have a release date, because FromSoftware hasn't announced it. Elden Ring came out on Feb. 25, 2022, and has sold more than 30 million copies. Since then, FromSoftware has added the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, the co-op spinoff Elden Ring Nightreign and a Switch 2 version, and the next new Elden Ring story is a live-action movie from A24, due in theaters on March 3, 2028.
Elden Ring is more than four years old, and FromSoftware still hasn’t made a second one. Here’s what’s official about Elden Ring 2, and what the series got instead.
When does Elden Ring 2 come out?
There’s no release date, because FromSoftware hasn’t announced Elden Ring 2. It hasn’t revealed a sequel, a platform or a trailer, and dates and videos shared online under the Elden Ring 2 name aren’t official.
Elden Ring came out on Feb. 25, 2022, made by FromSoftware with Bandai Namco, which publishes it outside Japan. By simple arithmetic, that’s four years and eight months as of October 2026. It has sold more than 30 million copies, and it’s $59.99 on Steam.
What came after Elden Ring
Instead of a sequel, FromSoftware kept adding to the same world. The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion came out in June 2024 and passed 10 million copies shipped by July 24, 2025. Elden Ring Nightreign, a co-op action survival spinoff, came out on May 30, 2025, and passed 5 million copies shipped by the same date. Its expansion, The Forsaken Hollows, added two new characters on Dec. 4, 2025. Both Shadow of the Erdtree and Nightreign are $39.99 on Steam.
Elden Ring on Switch 2 and the movie
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, an all-in-one version with Shadow of the Erdtree, came to Nintendo Switch 2 on Aug. 28, 2026. The same day, its new extras reached PS5, PS4, Xbox and Steam as the Tarnished Pack.
