Sekiro 2 release date: FromSoftware hasn't announced a sequel, but Sekiro is coming back as an anime
Sekiro 2 doesn't have a release date, because FromSoftware hasn't announced it. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice came out on March 22, 2019, won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019 and passed 10 million copies sold in September 2023. The next new Sekiro story is an anime instead: Sekiro: No Defeat, which played in Japanese theaters from Sept. 4, 2026, and comes to Crunchyroll as an eight-episode series in January 2027.
Sekiro is seven years old, and FromSoftware still hasn’t made a second one. Here’s what’s official about Sekiro 2, and what’s coming for the series instead.
When does Sekiro 2 come out?
There’s no release date, because FromSoftware hasn’t announced Sekiro 2. It hasn’t revealed a sequel, a platform or a trailer, and dates, titles and videos shared online under the Sekiro 2 name aren’t official.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice came out worldwide on March 22, 2019, on PS4, Xbox One and PC. By simple arithmetic, that’s seven and a half years as of October 2026. FromSoftware made the game, and Activision published it outside Japan and Asia.
How big Sekiro was
Sekiro won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019, along with an Award for Excellence at Japan’s Media Arts Festival. On Sept. 26, 2023, FromSoftware announced that the game had sold more than 10 million copies worldwide, counting digital copies on Steam.
It’s still on sale. The PS4 version is $59.99 on the PlayStation Store, and the GOTY Edition is $59.99 on Steam. FromSoftware hasn’t announced a Switch 2 version, and Nintendo’s US store doesn’t list the game.
Sekiro: No Defeat, the anime
The next new Sekiro story is an anime. Sekiro: No Defeat comes from studio Qzil.la, directed by Kenichi Kutsuna, with character designs by Takahiro Kishida. A theatrical cut opened in Japan on Sept. 4, 2026.
On Sept. 24, 2026, the anime’s team announced an eight-episode series for January 2027. Crunchyroll will stream it worldwide, except in Japan, China, Korea, Russia and Belarus. There’s no exact premiere day yet; see our Sekiro: No Defeat release date page for the details.
What FromSoftware is making now
FromSoftware’s next announced game is The Duskbloods, an online PvPvE game for Nintendo Switch 2 that’s still due in 2026; see our The Duskbloods release date page. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition came to Switch 2 on Aug. 28, 2026, for $79.99.
FromSoftware’s other long-awaited sequels haven’t been announced either; see our Bloodborne 2 release date and Armored Core 7 release date pages. For another samurai game, Sony’s Ghost of Yōtei is the latest in the Ghost series.
This page is updated as soon as FromSoftware announces Sekiro 2 or Crunchyroll sets a premiere day for Sekiro: No Defeat.
